Dark Iron PlansFollow

Well i spent some money on getting my Thorium Brotherhood Rep up and got the plans for Dark Iron Helm and Bracers, even got teh Dark Iron Breastplate drop from the goblin in BRD.

Im just wondering how many people actually use this stuff... it does have LOADS of fire res but im wondering if people are actually prepared to pay for the mat costs to make this stuff because it is UNBELIEVABLE expensive... well its not too bad, just depends on server prices. But your looking at a couple hundred gold per peice.

So do people actually look to buy this stuff if they aren't an armoursmith? If so how much do you think the people that would buy it would spend on the Helm and Bracers by providing mats + gold.... i dont think its fair that i have had to spend alot of time and gold getting my armoursmithing up to get these top end plans and give them it for free.... unless its a guildy =D

Unforutnaly MC is about to be a PsudoGraveyard. for a while at least(simply my theroy) When players start hitting level 63-67 even the casual player will be able to walkt in to MC with 19 buddies and eat the place up. The need for Huge ammounts of FR and armor will fall off as players will resist based on level and not have the need for Copious FR gear.

In case you are not sure why MC is so nasty is that the mobs ALWAYS outlevel you, this makes it eazy for them to resist you(and reduces cirts), and harder for you to resist them(and for you to not get Cirtted). This mechanic will change when the cap is lifted. We can hope that they buff the DI set items to make them more usefull.

I agree wih you on the value of the armor with very few buffs after the investment in time and money. After all of this, I wear very little of the stuff I can make, so why should anyone else buy it.

Most of the stuff I make, I end up selling to a vendor because it is either too expensive to sell on the AH or better stuff is available at similar prices.

As to the Dark Iron - heck at 300 in mining skills and 52 level - I can't figure out how to even get trained to smelt any ore I can buy for the plans I have. Obviously, then comes the question of selling it when I have no interest in the Fire Resistance. I want Intellect and Stamina!

If you're in a powerful end-game guild that farms MC, no, you don't need to craft any Dark Iron gear - you'll get better from MC and BWL drops. However, they got to be powerful endgame guilds by crafting dark iron gear and using it while they worked their way through MC, and there are still guilds working their way up that would gladly buy Dark Iron Helms. I've crafted six of them myself for guildies - I do the crafting for free, but the person that wants the helm provides the mats and comes with me to the black anvil in BRD to forge it. I've crafted the boots for a non-guildie, he was willing to pay 25G just for the crafting, as well as providing the mats and forming part of the BRD party.

The mats are expensive because they drop from random mobs in MC, and most of the guilds farming MC are using the mats to craft gear for themselves. The only ones available are either from guilds who really don't need the gear anymore and are getting as much gold as they can for the mats, or from PuGs, which on my server at least are getting more common. I would expect the price of the mats to drop once it becomes possible to farm MC in smaller groups.

For Aarros - the trainer for smelting Dark Iron ore is Gloom'rel, one of the ghosts in the seven ghost room towards the back of Blackrock depths. You need to take 20 gold bars, 10 truesilver bars, and 4 star rubies down with you and talk to him before anyone starts the script to kill the ghosts. Once you've talked to him, a ghostly chalice will appear next to him - click on it, accept the quest to give up all your nice mats, and talk to him again (that part is important!) - he will teach you to smelt Dark Iron. Since you're only level 52, you probably haven't made it into BRD yet, but you have to go to the black forge to smelt the dark iron, and to the black anvil to forge anything from it.
