What;s with the 24hr cooldown on Philosophers' Stone?Follow

If I would have known that before, I may not have pursued learning all the transmuting skills. That was pretty expensive for me to get. Not to mention the philosoper's stone itself was pretty hi-dollar.

I can maybe understand such a long cooldown on the arcanite stuff. But its idiotic to have to wait 24hrs to change 1-iron bar to 1-gold bar. I think the cooldown should be relative to what you're transmuting.

You know, I've done plenty of Arcanite transmutes, but I have yet to do an Iron to Gold. Never seemed worth my time for precisely the reason you mention - the 24 hr cooldown.

I think it's more of a symbolic recipe than a practical one. You know, the whole "lead into gold" aspect of alchemy as we know it.

About the only good thing about transmutes is the monatary value. I have a 300 alchemist and that and some potions is about all I do with it.

I have hard time finding the value in that skill, but as mentioned, I bet it's merely an old-world reference. Gold can get pretty hard to find... though.

Perhaps Iron to Gold will become more attractive with the introduction of jewelcrafting. It's unlikely to ever beat the high-end essence transmutes though, in TBC I'm certain that alchemists will be able to charge good rates for Primal Essence transmutes.

It's a transmute of an Iron Bar to a Gold Bar. Jewelcrafting will only deal with the unrefined Iron Ore/Gold Ore and so I don't think the transmute will be of any more use at that point than now.

Have you actually tried this transmute and checked the cooldown? My wife found that the cooldown for transmute a heart of fire to three essences of fire was only ten minutes.

I have, and it is 24 hrs. the sweet heart of fire to 3 EoF is a goodin, unlike the other two, and here comes the logic..... skill level 225, yes you can level alchemy off of theese guys, all be it slow, but you can. Up next is that the HoF to EoF is moving "Down"in level, not up.

We may not like it but heck, get a level or two out of alchmey and get some "rare"metal in the process. It is a no brainer that you will not be doing theese two transmutes when you get to 275(when you will be doing transmutes for money) but they are something to hold you over.

For some of us in the non exalted heights of lvl 35+ and Alchemy 300 - the transmute iron to gold (should really be lead to gold - but mnah) earns a little cash - especially if you go in every night and just ping it - no silly restrictions like a moonpool for moon cloth (cool down FOUR days - er Salt shaker - cool down three days) I use this as quite a nice little earner thank you ;)

Single most profitable transmute to have right there. I used to buy 20 HoF for 20 gold before MC/BWL raids and do the transmutes every time there was any downtime (or during trash in MC hehe). Sold each elemental fire for 1g+ (sometimes up to 15-17g per stack of 10). So that's 40g+ in pure profit while raiding (even if I skimmed a few off the top for FR pots). Sadly, raiding is all but dead on most servers now, so it's just not worth it anymore....
