Jewel Crafting items listFollow

#1 Dec 08 2006 at 7:56 PM Rating: Decent
I decided to try and start a list of things needed for Jewelcrafting that i can get before the patch hits:
Malachite
Bronze bar(all bars actually)
(all stones)
Tigerseye
Pearls
Shadowgem
Moonstones
Essence of earth, living essence, and so on
Jade
Large Fang
enchanting Dusts
mana pot
Elixir of Ogre's Strength
Shadow Oil
Moss Agate
Citrine
Elemental earth and so on
Star Rubys???? are these in WoW?
Aquamarine
Flask of Mojo
Core of earth(and others presumably)

ALRIGHT I could go on but i wanted a list for myself that might flame up in price when BC hits for awhile. I am going to try and farm some of this stuff and you guys might want to too :)

I know im kinda spilling the beans but whatever

Yes star rubies are in the game. Here's a link to all the places you can find them:

Yeppers. I was farming rep in Winterspring and had a Star Ruby drop from a Winterfall Den Watcher just a few days ago.

Hehehe - star rubies better be in the game! You need four of them (among other things) to learn to smelt dark iron!

Seriously, they are gemstones that drop from higher level mines- rich thorium veins mostly, though I believe I've seen them from small thorium veins as well.

Odd thing is that all the Star Rubies I have gotten are from AV...

Since lots of people will want to level jewelcrafting from 0 to 300 in one day, a good strategy would be to research what mats will be in demand and stockpile them. You can bet that the prices will skyrocket for the first few days until the early adopters level and the mat farmers catch up on supply and demand. This could be your chance to earn an epic mount in one week :).

Ok, this is starting to annoy me. About a month ago I read a jewelcraft strat guide and it said to save ore not bars. Now people are saying save bars. Which is best to save? Should I save both? If I should save bars I can obviously stack more than I could with ores.

Why don't you save the ores and store them on an alt?

Sorry if some of this is old news for some people:

Ideally you'll want both ore and bars, but obviously space is an issue. The reason people suggested ore at first is that there's a skill in Jewelcrafting called Prospecting. This skill allows you to destroy 5 ore of one type and potentially get gems in return. The type of gems that you can get is based on the kind of gems you'd normally find if you mined a vein of that ore type.
This is likely why people were telling you to store ore. However, ore is only stackable to ten, bars can be stacked to twenty. So you'll have far better space economy with bars. But you'll have to mine/buy more ore if you fall short on your gem needs. At that point you'll already be in an economic situation where ore is going to gain in value significantly.

So the choice to store either ore or bars is really up to you. If you have the space in your main Jewelcrafter's bank, and you have alts with room to store items, you can easily store ore rather than bars.

What I've found that most people are doing in prep for Jewelcrafting is stockpiling a lot of copper, bronze, mithril and iron bars, but storing a lot of thorium ore. This is because you can prospect all of the high level gems needed for Jewelcrafting from thorium ore. It's quite a bit cheaper to mine a handful of thorium ore then to buy a handful of emeralds.

Thorium? I get them from Mithril veins all the time (Charred Vale FTW). I have a stack of them in the bank. I also pickpocket them from the mobs at the ruins in STV where Zanzil is (I can't remember the name of it, Aboraz or something). Engineers need them for a few recipes, most notably (and profitably) the Goblin Jumper Cables XL.

I noticed on the Beta realm that ore stacks to 20 so this will help with the bag space issue for Jewelcrafters.

However, I don't quite understand Prospecting. I can hover over the ore in my bag, and it says "Prospectable" but nothing happens if I right-click the ore. And nor do I have a Prospecting ability in my spellbook similar to the Disenchant ability that comes with Enchanting. What's going on?

Prospecting requires level 20 Jewelcrafting skill to be done. It's a skill learnable at the trainer.

As for the person asking whether to save ore or bars... I'd save the ore. They can always be made into bars later, and not vice versa. Bars ARE what's needed for jewelcrafting though. But it's through prospecting the ore that you'll find most of your jewels.
