I'll try to make sure I put as much information in here as possable, so that you can get the best perspective I can give. I've been going nuts trying to figure this out, so some unbiased opinions would be very helpful I think.

Basic stuff first I guess, I'm going to be a hunter, and i'm going nuts with picking between three professions in the expansion. I've been using http://www.thottbot.com/beta?t=Alchemy thottbot as a guide for how professions are going to be setup after the expansion is released, and it's driving me nuts with the choices. And the reason this is getting to me is I'm trying to pick professions for my main.

Jewelcrafting: I love shinies, plain and simple. In every single MMO i've ever played that had the option available, I've always with no question done jewelcrafting. It's fun for me, I love crystals and gemstones in real life, I've collected them for years, and this was originaly a no-brainer choice for me. But...after looking through recipes, I'm not really sure just how useful this profession is going to be for a hunter vs the others.

Engineering/Leatherworking: I tend to enjoy soloing unless I happen to be grouping with people I know (PUGs have scarred me for life >>). I am also one of those people who HATE to spend ANY money at all unless I have to, so even if it slows my leveling down, I almost never purchase any weapons or armor under any circumstances unless i'm getting trashed by the mobs I'm leveling on. Leatherworking provides armor for me, but the end-game recipes so far seem to be more geared towards Shaman, but i'm unsure about that (as i've never had an end-game character). Engineering has lots of fun little toys and useful items, and above all, has the Goblin Jumper Cables, which alone would be a reason for me to take engineering as a character who can fein death, and also I can make some killer guns/scopes/armors. About the only problem is I tend to dislike how self-destructive engineering tends to be >.>

The problem basicaly seems to run down to, which would I have more fun with? Now normally I would have to answer that myself, but here's why I need help. Jewels I love, a lot. Shinies forever :P but...I tend to get the most enjoyment from a game based on how well I can solo the game, and i'm not really sure jewelcrafting would provide nearly as much gear for a solo character as leatherworking or engineering would. I really do want jewelcrafting, but I'm not seeing much in there that a hunter would really have that couldn't be outdone by items in engineering or leatherworking, but...they're shiny :P

Yea, I'm making a big deal out of basicaly nothing, but I would still appreciate some opinions on the idea if you don't mind taking the time to post. Thanks in advance :)

Now I am not 100% sure but gemcrafting will be like enhanting, an "Advanced" profession. As it stands you can make some Decent gear, but mostly the profession is for socketed items. Like a enchanter this profession will likely be best suited for one member in a guild, or for the type of player who loves a challange. I can almost garuentee that this is not the powerhouse folks will think it. I am not sayign it will not be a powerfull craft, just that it will be like enchanting, and folks will be complaining about how hard it is, and how nobody appreicates them.(My 2 Cents, let somebody else take this craft)

I cannot count the times spending 5 gold would have made making 20 that much less difficult. My opinion is to be thrifty, and I like the attatude that you do not have to have the "Best" at any given time, yet I note a few misconceptions.

Leatherworking provides armor for me

But not very good armor. Most of the armor you can make can be outdone by instance gear(I cannot immigine that TBC will be any diffrent). My very first toon was a hunter and i chose to go LW. and all was great till i got to 40, and even making the best dragonscale armor(pre boots) I saw that I would be having issues. If you can suck it up and do a few instance runs, even with PUG's you can usualy get better armor than can be made.

I am a engineering advocate, so I almost always recomend it, but like LW, the guns you can make with Eng are not the Beez Knees, they are adaquate at best. The kicker is in explosives(when coupled with Volly), this allows a hunter to convert a weak spot in to one of power.

In your spot, I would either go with Eng(the scopes are good, and you can sell ore that you do not use) or some sort of doubble gathering setup.

I definately don't want to do double gathering, I tend to craft stuff to make myself useful goodies and to have fun, I don't really do crafting to make money. The problem is figuring out what's going to be useful without boring me. Making armor, making gadgets, and especialy making gems is fun. But being practical is almost as good as being fun...and it looks like 90% of the jewelcrafting items are worthless for a hunter, which bites...cause gems are shiny :P

Engineering is the one I keep leaning towards for practical uses, but...while 90% of the items aren't worthless for me, 90% of the items do bore me, since I hate using the items that blow up in my face or making things that I won't get around to using much. I would pretty much only be taking engineering for goggles, scopes, and the jumper cables (and things like pets and toys). Leatherworking seems to have gotten some new armor patches that do better stuff than just +def, but...meh...*pouts*

Dunno =/ I'm an indecisive little person, lol. There is a reason i've had 40+ chars and none of them go past level 20-30 XD

I went through thottbot again...and basicaly...still dunno >_< Jewelcrafting would win for me just on the fun part, but it would be nearly useless for my hunter. Engineering would have ammo and scopes (which I could just buy if I had to) but it would have the jumper cables which require engineering to actually use...w00 cables. Leatherworking would provide me some armor, mostly cause i'm just to cheap to buy it, but who knows if the armor i'm crafting at level X will even be all that useful =/ and making armor is kinda boring...

*sighs* My brain hates me XD
