Both can bring in the gold. The issue with Mining + Herbalism is that you can only track one at a time. So you will miss out on ore when you are looking for herbs, and vice versa.

I would recommend checking the prices of ores at your level, and comparing them to the prices of herbs at your level. Then take up skinning and either mining or herbalism. As Thermal said, you can only have one active "find" up at a time, so it's not as efficient.

/Agree, which is why I a;ways recommend skinning as the second gathering skill and fishing as the third.

Mining is much better than herbalism for making money since all the alchemists have herbalsm. Mining+tailoring is great combo for making money but since u are a paly Minig+ enchanting is the best combination for making money

That frame of mind makes no sense trep, you can say the same thing for miners and blacksmiths, leather workers and skinners to.
There is always a demand for the higher lv herbs, I've made so much money off of ice cap it's not funny.

DO what you find fun, is what I always say.

I have a main character with mining and herbalism and I love it.

Combined with the Gatherer addon ... you simply toggle between the two skills when needed. I can gather Thorium and Herbs in some of the best areas in the game.

That being said ... I think Skinning and Herbs is another great combo ( as you are out on the open plain where animals and herbs spawn ) ... or Mining and Skinning ( great for Mining in caves with Animals / Yeti's in them, Ore is a bonus )

Whatever you like ... having two gathering professions is a great steady money earner in this game.

If you are farming mats with mining and herbalism, you will memorize where everything is and run circuits collecting them. It won't matter about the heads up view--although you can use that add-on someone mentioned to map everything out by alternating views (which is a pain but once done is painless).

www.mapwow.com shows where every node is in the game, so you can plan your routes with it. I have played so long that I have memorized all the key mining nodes.

You have discovered the perfect 1-2 punch for making TONS of cash. These two trade skills are by FAR the easiest and fastest way to make money. You don't have to use what you gather/mine and convert it into something else. Let alone mix the ingredients into some other form, ie., blacksmithing and/or alchemy, to get something that you can sell readily. Both herbalism and Mining get you raw materials that are usually far more valuable than anything else in the game. And you get ALL of your 'cash' crops for FREE. No need to ever buy flux, flasks, or other frivolous items. Your cash is up front. You simply sell your raw material on the AH and collect the cash.

Many people will say that you can't mine and gather at the same time, buy these people have obviously never been a miner/herbalist. You get a icon for each trade skill. Simply place both icons in the corner slots, and toggle back and forth between them. Set your zoom out to the farthest setting, and you can gather every herb and mine every node within any zone. Talk about EFFICIENT! You are literally killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

I have personally been a miner/herbalist for over 2 years. I have more money on my chars than I can spend. My bank is in the THOUSANDS. Everyone else complains about not having any money, while I quietly sit back and rake it in. lol

Wow talk about annoying if you have to toggle between find minerals and find herbs every few seconds. IMO, if you have been playing for a while or know where most nodes spawn, then go with both. If not, try not to use mining/herbalism as it will get really confusing and you will miss a lot if you dont switch between find minerals/herbs.

To get the most out of your professions, i'd say drop the one you feel you dont train as much or enjoy. They both have their ups and downs, so go with the one you prefer.

Mining - at higher levels (ie dark iron ore) you rake in a TON of $$
Herbalism - steady supplies of herbs nearly everywhere which provide you with somewhat good $$
