ok so i have a level 10 undead priest who's skills are skinning and herbalism right now. im thinking of possibly picking up alchemy. now i know you can unlearn a skill but my question is
if you unlearn a skill and later decide to pick it back up again, will you have to start leveling from 1 all over again? or will you continue from the last level before unlearning?

Yes, sad but true, but when you drop a profession and you pick it up again later, you will have to start all over again. Your skill level will be 1 again and you will have to rebuy all your recipes/patterns...
But at least you are doing this early. I leveled my engineering to 300 and have some expensive schematics. With burning crusade coming out, I am considering changing professions. Very painful, kind of like deciding which of your children to give up.
Did I read somewhere in the upcoming patch that you would be able to drop a profession and pick it up again where you left off? Or was that just an evil fantasy?

I've heard nothing on this and I consider myself fairly up to date on upcoming changes.
