I an currently using Herb/Alch as my profs. But one of my friends has Skin/Herb and he is makeing huge amounts of money and has 3 firey weapon enchants. Should I go Herb/Skin for the money? What do you think.

Depends -- how far along into Alchemy are you? Do you own World or Boss Drop recipes that are expensive to replace? Do you enjoy Alchemy? I personally find Alchemy to be a great profession both for personal utility and to make money.

You could probably make good money by just selling the herbs. You don't mention your level so I can't make specific suggestions. If there are raiding guilds on your server, they will like Dreamfoil, Icecap, and Gromsblood just to name a few.

Try fishing for profit. Stonescale eel makes stonescale oil, which can be used in several high end alchemy potions/flasks.

You can make money with herbalism alone, and you can make money with Alchemy as well.

I am not sure what BC will do to this, but fishing is one of the super money makers of the game, stonescale eels rock!!!!!!!.

Some of my points on doubble gathering.

You will make copious ammounts of money, I mean truely disturbing money. Even on a brand new server with a weak economy, there is money everyplace. Not only are you selling your stuff for money, you are not spending money leveling a trade. For example even with a main feeding them a tradeskill cost about 40-80 gold to level to 300, and thats a low apromoation. If you think of every time you bought a item on the AH to level alchemy, of every recipe you bough, of each level uncap, of every time you made a item for a buddy free of charge, of every time you gave up a good drop to get a recipe that is totaly awsum(thinking flasks) you would see that having a job cost much much more than just the visiable cost. My point? well you make money as well as save money by not sinking it in to a trade.

The drawback? Well I may be a rare one but what do you need Gold for? pretty much one thing, Mounts. I leveled at least a dozzen toons to the late 50's and 6 all the way to 60, I have purhased 12 normal mounts and 4 epic mounts. While I had a hard time on my first mount the rest were eazy, all I had to do was be aware of it. Doubble gathering is a fast and eazy way to make money but alchemy can pay off well too, every 48 hrs is a free 5 gold for a transmute(24 hrs if you have a sweet elemental transmute) and stuff like flasks sell like hotcakes, for big bux.

The bottom line to me is that while doubble gathering is the best way to make money(that you can then use to buy stuff), but not the only way, I have never been in a pinch where I could not get what I wanted(remember I also never played a exclusive Melee toon, so stuff like cursader was never on my objective lists)if you like having potions, stay with alchemy, If you think you will never see 100 gold for you mount, then be a gather. IMHO the most important part is to have fun with what you are doing!

ehhh i think its kinda pointless having 2 gathering profs since you can only have one of them up at a time. Stick with Herb/Alch. You can start making decent cash of herbalism early by auctioning Rage and Swiftness Pots(twinks buy em) Also once you start mining the swifthistle(Rogues need it for swiftthistle tea) nodes you'll make decent cash AHing them as well.

The real cash with herbalism though comes when you can start gathering Fadeleaf. Since rogues need it for Blind, theres always a market for it.

just wanted to add by doing it herb/alch I had about 65 g by the time I hit 33, good profs' overall.

I do herb/alchy. I find Alchemy to be very useful. While you do have to purchase some recipes many are simply trained or bought at a vendor.

Also its a trade off. If you dont have alchemy then you have to purchase Healing and mana potions not to mention many others if you PvP or do dungeons/raids.

Also there are some things that making the potion sells better than the herb. Very few but still. It can depend on the server but for instance I make more money off of Swiftness potions than I would selling the Swiftthistle.

Also changing Firefin snappers into fire oil sells quicker and for a little more money than just selling the fish.

Also when I do PvP or instances with groups I have really useful potions that otherwise I wouldnt use. I mean sure if I had two gathering I would have more money and could afford some of the potions, but Im a potion addict and buying them surely would take me to broke at some point.

On my Druid who was also an alchemist I used the highest level potions for fun without batting an eye, cause it was free to me. Alot of times I would sell my stacks of herbs as they usually sell better than the potion, but have some left over that did not make a full stack. I make the potions and use them.

It is so fun using potions like limited invulnerability potions in battle grounds, and watching the twink meleers freak out. Ever use a greater stoneshield potion in a BG? Lots of fun.

Any way my point is that Alchemy can be very useful, and you can still make good money off the herbs and some potions as well.

I make most of my money from just herbalism and fishing, another gathering proffession will just take my time away from the other gathering Im doing. I mean sure when your leveling suddenly it looks great to be able to skin all that stuff you kill. But when it comes to just doing gathering farm sessions for money, you are gonna choose what to do any way.

Just remember with Herb/alchy that you first make your money, then you make your potions.
