Armorsmithing: not making money.Follow

#1 Nov 21 2006 at 8:43 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a 60 warrior and I've given a lot of effort trying to become an armorsmith (or even to level up blacksmithing period). Eventually after I got the armorsmith quest done, I had realized that maybe armorsmithing/blacksmithing was hurting me more than it helped.

I'm a casual player, and a lot of the profitable crafted armor requires a lot of time or a raiding guild. So far I haven't made any money selling anything from blacksmithing, and the crafted armor can't seem to compete with armor from dungeons that I run.

Right now I'm at 270 smithing and armorsmith. Any suggestions on making quick cash using blacksmithing, or a starting a new easier trade skill?

Skinning is probably one of the easiest to level up along with herbalism and mining as they are the gathering skills.
Not sure what would be most profitable though. Probably herbalism as far as I know.

You cant make money from armoursmithing. Its only useful if you want to make items for yourself - albeit at an astronomical cost.

The best thing you can do, is scan the AH for mats that have been dumped on there, and then see if you can make something for less then you can sell it. If there is demand for it then just specialise in making that one item. I have found a few items I can make money from - but never consistently.

The reality is that armoursmithing is only useful for your own stuff. You need to be seriously cashed up to make anything useful or have a guild fund you.

The best use we have found for Armoursmithing is making the Dark iron armour for our MC runs. It doesn't make money, but is almost essential.

Two words for you: Truesilver Gauntlets. I make these and regularly sell them for 15-25g a pop. They are lvl 40, blue, and plate which means people wanting to trick out their toons with the best possible gear at 40 will pay it. The only other blue plate gaunts at that lvl are Plated Fist of Hakoo and generally people overcharge for them. I have a LW toon alt so I can easily make the guardian gloves it requires. Aquamarine and Citrine go fairly cheap in the AH... I pay no more than 35s per piece. The mithril and truesilver you need, you go out and mine it, or in a worst case scenario you suck it up and buy it off the AH. I too am a casual player but I have amassed quite a sum from selling these.

There are a few other things which will give you small amounts of cash, and a couple that can give you large amounts. Check for items needed for quests - the moonsteel broadsword, big iron mauls, and possibly others - will sell regularly if not for huge amounts of cash. The pearl-handled dagger also sells pretty well for low level rogues. Iron buckles, gold rods, silver rods, truesilver rods, arcanite rods, shield spikes, mithril spurs, all of these will sell for a fair profit if not an insane one. Occasionally imperial plate armor will sell, but I don't think you've got those recipes yet.

To really make money armoursmithing though, you will need either one of the rare recipes (the lionheart helm is a great money-maker, the whitesoul helm not too bad) or a guild to supply mats (dark iron gear!)
