Best time for a Priest to switch to tailoring?Follow

I'm almost level 20 right now, I've been kind of lazy with my prof. (Herbalism/Mining), but I've got about 10 gold, consistent silver daily. I'm about to switch from mining to alchemy... but when is the best time for a priest to switch to tailoring? I'm doing it for the gear I can get for myself late-game (although I will be raiding), and was thinking of doing it at 40, after my mount. Good idea, or would I be missing out on good gear in 20s-30s?

I wouldn't drop your gathering professions until you earn enough to purchase a mount at 40. Then, I'd consider dropping 1 gathering profession in trade for a production skill.

To answer your specific question, you will not miss out on any gear by not taking up tailoring if you quest and run instances. Quest/Instance loot will usually surpass most gear created by tradeskills.

To be honest, i don't know why everyone makes a fuss about your mount at 40, i have just reached 40 on a priest myself and i easily managed to but my mount, just farm elemental earth in badlands, if i were you id switch to tailoring right now because you get all mats you need when your trainin instead of buying mats at a higher level

Maybe most people have no trouble getting money for their mount, but I see it time and time again that someone gets near 40 and realizes they are way short of the gold needed to buy the mount.

Then they come to this forum and ask "Help I'm almost 40 and need mount money".

Well my guild is incredibly large enough that donations for mounts happen frequently, and I really don't have to worry about it after I apply discounts - I'll be getting to honored and sgt. rank.

Its just that once I get 40, and likely my shadow form, I don't see a problem melting away lowbie mobs for mats.

I'll probably do tailoring after my mount then, thanks, but any other advice is welcome.

My priest is level 36 right now and is 278/300 in tailoring at the moment. She has not worn any of the gear she can make so far :) She has always found better drops in instances. So you should be fine waiting until you buy your mount before changing over. The Dreamweave pieces at level 40 and 45 are probably the first things she will actually wear. I just wanted to start her out with tailoring so she would have gear to disenchant (she is an enchanter as well) and I also wanted to start making mooncloth as soon as possible so she will have enough to make the mooncloth gear once she reaches the proper level.

However, this character is my alt. All of the cloth she has been using has been gathered by my level 60 hunter who has no problems making money. If your character is your main, I definitely advise sticking with the gathering professions until you have some money set aside.

For my priest lvl 40 and all of the money spending that comes along with it was easy, just power through a whole bunch of rfd and sm from 30 to 40. but about the proffessions ive seen a lot more good drops come from instances, but whats hard to say no to is the truefaith vestments chest, if you really would like those then the only way to go is tailoring. btw that chest is BOP lvl 300 tailoring so it cannot be made for others.

What about the robe of power? It's a really, really great robe for 7ish levels until you get dreamweave, assuming you get both of them asap.

Also, the Robe of the mage/priest/lock are all pretty good, and of course bags are great. I here the mooncloth stuff is good for priests.

I personally don't think any Preist should be without tailoring as a skill from the start.I make a lot of money in ah by selling low level items with the mats I get from my skinning skill and and I never have to worry about buy leather to make those cetain items that req leather and sell for much m ore on AH.
