Well, since the beta is no longer forbidden info by blizz, they unlocked the beta boards (I apologize profusely to blizz if this was by accident..not that they'll see this post, but ANYWAY...). On the beta board, I found a post on how jewelcrafting works, figured I'd post the link. Have fun.

Gotta say, I am awed. If this is the quality going into the game mechanics of the expansion (and everything so far suggests it is), I am amazed and am left drooling with anticipation!

HI PEOPLE

new to this board and it looks pretty cool

anyway

im a miner and blacksmith in game
now if in jewelcrafting you need ore and gems.

i see this as an extension to the miner/blacksmith

does antone know if you can have it as a 3rd skill

makes sense to me.??????

anybody know

paddymcphee, you said you needed ores and gems.

Ores and gems can be gathered by the mining profession only. You don't need blacksmithing. It's just like engineering.

So no, I don't think they'll allow 3 primary professions.

No, you cannot. You can be a miner/jewelcrafter or a miner/blacksmith, or a miner/engineer. However, a lot of mobs drop gemstones, so it might be more like tailoring, where you use cloth drops. As a miner in the BC Beta, I haven't seen any increase in gemstones with the ore. However, I'm not a jewelcrafter (yet - I'm reserving that for my Draenei, and so far I've only played the Blood Elf.), so the jewelcrafting profession may have something in it to extract gems from ore that hasn't been turned into bars - I just don't know yet.

Yes. Jewelcrafting will come with an ability to extract jewels from an ore (and using it up in the process). Similar to the Disenchant ability that comes with the Enchanting profession.

Heh! You beat me to it. All I can add is that the skill to change ore into gemstones is called Prospecting, and it's part of Jewelcrafting, not mining. The implication for the trade skills forum is that currently we sell bars for more than ore, but in the future, we have to make a choice whether to sell bars or sell raw ore at the AH. Can you say "inflation"?

I am not sure which server your on, but in all the servers that I have been to ore sells for more than the bars. Not much more but 10s more sold 50 times is a lot of gold to a low lvl.

-Shattered hand
-Norgannon
-Thunderhorn

Mostly DUskwood (Alliance) lately. But server doesn't really matter - ore is going to shoot through the roof after the expansion is released.

Is there a level requirement to get past 300 skill? Or could a level 35 character max out the skill assumeing he had the mats? Also are some of the recipies BoP? I'm trying to figure out if my raiding character needs to learn jewelcraft, or if I can put it on an alt.

Thanks

Im pretty sure they are all BoP. But I could be wrong.

I don't know yet. My 60 would certainly be able to gain skill, my 38 hasn't maxed any of his skills yet, and my newbies ... they're newbies. I think that power-levelling jewelcrafting will be very expensive - I haven't got a handle yet on what (gem)crafted items will sell well. It's hard to guage that in Beta.

It's called a change in the fundamentals.

Any idea if Jewelcrafting will use the stones gotten from mineral veins? Ie. Solid Stone, Coarse Stone, etc.

It won't.

Actually, it WILL. I would post a qoute if the beta forum was working for me atm, but there are statues that take the stones to make that give regen type effects (kinda like a healing totem I geuss, from what I've read).

Cool info.

Looks like I'll continue hoarding ores and crystals until the expansion.

Already have about 30 stacks of each kind and about 300 assorted gems.
