As stated in the thread title. I'm currently a level 35 Rogue, who spends his time stealthing into SM to grab chests, solo a few elites here and there, and sell what I get in drops from the AH. I've also found a profit in Herbalism. Currently, I have Alchemy and Herbalism as my tradeskills. (Herbalism at 225, Alchemy at 220) And I was wondering if, given the amount of greens and the occasional blue from a boss that I've been picking up, if I should go ahead and drop Alchemy in favor of Enchanting. I've gone to 290 enchanting on one of my alts, so I know the commitment involved there. However, do you, as the reader, believe that I should do this? Will the profit made from DE-ing (and perhaps solely DE-ing) Outweigh the profit I would make from Alchemy in the long-term? Input would be awesome, whether you think it's a good idea to Drop Alchemy, a Good Idea to drop Herbalism, or to even drop neither! Currently, I want to drop Alchemy in favor of enchanting (and using enchanting as a gathering skill, and once expenses are covered in equipment, move on to maybe levelling it for fun and profit, as I'm a bit of a Trade Skill addict when it comes to MMORPGs) Let me kow what you think. And thanks for taking the time to read.

Edit: Forgot to mention, the alt I spoke of? He's alliance while the character I'm talking about is Horde, so sending stuff to said alt would be possible, though overly cumbersome (to me.) Also, DEing items would eliminate that horrid AH deposit.

The only reason to get DE on a main character is to DE soulbound equipment. So that is equipment you have grown out of and BOP equipment. I suspect this is not that large an amount of kit. All of your BOE kit you could just ship to a specially created "Bank Alt". A Bank Alt is a character you create, get to level 5 to learn enchanting, then park near the bank. You ship him/her any BOE kit that needs DE, he also gives you double the bank space for no extra cost. You can slo scan the AH with the alt for any cheap kit that will DE well. You can find Auctioneer and Enchantrix quite useful for this. As an added bonus your main can just mail stuff to the Alt, saving you flying back to a main city every day.

So in summary, keep them both and create an Alt.

Like I'd said though, some things I pick up as BoEs, soloing rare spawns in SM GY can give me BoE blues that I want to DE. And I don't want to have to level another character to 35 if/when I decide to take Enchanting all of the way. Is alchemy good profit way later on? Or is it the sort that is only good profit if you can get the ludicrously rare/expensive formulas? (like enchanting is, with the exception of using it as a gathering skill)

I am in a MC raiding guild with one character, a ZG one with another. In both guilds we use shd loads of potions, mainly resistance, healing and mana. These are a continuing market for Alchemists. You might want to check out some prices on your own realm. What is the going rate for higher-end potions? I did a quick check on some of the potions I use.

The Major Mana recipe, I use 3 or 4 a raid, is easy to get off the Ghost seller at Caer Darrow.
The Major Healing recipe is from Everlook, again easy.
Greater Fire Protection, 2% drop off LBRS Mob. Not too tricky.
Greater Nature protection , 1-2% drop off WPL Mob. Trickier.

As well as these good sellers you have the whole raft off transmutes available as you level. People always want arcanite tansmute, but you can also look at transmuting unpopular or cheap essences, such as undeath, into more valuable ones such as water.

So it is upto you what to do. I think Alchemy is both interesting and profitable, but If you do not, choose a skill you will enjoy.

Good luck.

Hmm, thank you. Herbalism only get more and more profitable with level, correct? I've read it in the FAQs and the such, but I wanted first-hand accounts.

Personally I would stick with alch and herb. As a previous poster stated, you can always create a bank alt to DE your BOE's. Pick a toon that you could be excited about leveling later on once your main gets into the raiding scene.

Right now my main has mining and herbalism in the artisan level (a bit tricky finding nodes on the minimap for both simultaneous though). I use the gatherer addon to record locations of nodes I have previously been to, so I can run towards the location of the node and switch to the appropriate node finder to see if it is an available node.

Eventually I plan to switch to Alch and eng and powerlevel them both to 300 once i have gathered enough mats. The engineering is mostly to use personally, while the alchemy will be used to sell potions for gold.

I have numerous alts ranging from lvl 6 to 36. One other has double gathering (skin and mine), one has alch and herb, one has tailor and ench, one has skin and herb, my primary bank alt has leather and ench, and my newest toon doesnt have any profs yet, but Im leaning toward herb and mining.

To make a long answer short, definitely stick with herb and alch.

Hmm, it seems I'll probably end up sticking with Herb and Alchemy then. Thanks alot for all of the input guys. And btw, one of my alts has 315 Engineering. Probably the most fun profession I've done so far, definitely worth the time and effort.

Enchanting is good and all but you have to find those items to disenchant which can more time consuming than running around and gathering herbs. I know that on my herbalist i can gather two stacks of herbs from a zone in an hour generally. Usually those stacks sell for good deal of money. Plus since you have alchemy you can just turn the less profitable herbs into pots for your own use or to sell on the AH also.
