Just one thing. It is very hard to make any money out of tailoring. As thisis you first character I would consider taking skinning+mining or skinning+herbalism and selling everything you can on the Auction House. However if you are determined to go the tailoring route I found this helpful:

See the very first post in this forum? It's called the "Trade Skills Sticky" There is a Tailoring section there that is a good place to start.

Edit: Nice link magret - thanks!

I found that the sweet spot on my server for making money is to sell bags. Specifically mageweave bags. I could buy a stack of mageweave for about 1g (give or take) then sell the bags for 2.25-2.5g a piece. Making 10 bags at a time gives you a decent profit. A lvl 60 friend of mine gave me the hints about bags and to use a good tagline with your selling in the trade channel. For instance:

"IN AH -- Super Cheap [Mageweave Bag]s. Get them while you still can. Priced way below competition!!!".

Might take some time and money to get the skill up, but in the end it'll be worth it.

Soon as you can make Mooncloth, start churning out Mooncloth bags and robes. On my server you can sell the former for 15-20g and the latter for up to 100g.

I've not been a tailor myself, so take this as you will. I have quite a few tailoring buddies spread through servers, and the consensus seems to be to save Mooncloth for items, as using them for bags is a complete waste.

The reasoning behind it escapes me, as I've not been a tailor in my life, but maybe some other tailors can tell you if this is accurate or not :x

One of my Characters is a tailor 300.

The problem with mooncloth bags is you can sell them for 16-20g, but you can sell the monncloth for 14-17g. Once you add in the runecloth (1.2g) and the rune thread (40-50s) there is very little extra profit made. You are better off just selling the mooncloth. (prices will vary server to server, but the basic concept is the same).

I do enjoy tailoring, I have made a lot of my own kit, inc most of the moovncloth armour, but it is not a good money spinner. Also at lower levels you are not reselling cloth which brings in good starting cash.

There is a good guide to leveling up your tailoring mirrored at:

Yikes. The guides linked here are terribly formatted.

Looks like the original is here (for now):
http://www.xs4all.nl/%7Ebrt/wow/guides/skilluptailoring.html

I also like the one posted on wowwiki (with formatting!)
http://www.wowwiki.com/Powerlevel_Tailoring

I think the 2 are the same. WowWiki seems to have crashed right as I clicked the link to look at the page so I can't confirm right now.

As stated earlier, there is little if any profit in Mooncloth Bags. Whether they make sense for personal use depends on the current price of Traveler's Backpacks. If you can make a bag for less than the cost of one of these, then it makes sense. If not, then sell the Mooncloth and buy backpacks.

I believe the best thing to do with tailoring is to learn Enchanting along with it. That way, you can DE the things you make, and use enchanting as your profit.

saying you cant make money from tailoring, totally wrong... you farm your own mats... buy the thread and dye, you sell to vendors for profit...aswell as ah magicals... even for around 10s, every low level magical will sell, enchanters need the mats, especially at lower levels..

But you make a lot less profit than you would in other ways. The cloth itself will sell well on the AH, without needing a skill to "tart it up". You are better off, if looking for profit, to increase the number of revenue streams. With tailoring you have one revenue stream, the items you change the cloth into, with mining you have two, the cloth you get and the ore/bars you mine.

All just MO ofc.
