One thread does not a trafficked forum make. (Not to mention that a good portion of that thread was just silly bickering and 1-liners with no real content...)

Point was that it's not like important threads are being dragged off the top of the first page by a bunch of spam threads. If that were the case, moderation would become a bigger issue. But it's not. In any event, social/offtopic commentary is generally allowed on server forums and I doubt that's going to change, because there's really no need for it to be. Most people that want to talk about FFXI will either do it ingame or on =10; the server forums are just a means for people that already know each other via FFXI to interact.

Besides, it's not like you've ever made relatively pointless threads on FFXI forums just for lulz, right? No suh.

Well, regardless whether this forum should be our glorious cookie haven or a place for light-hearted or even serious FFXI discussion, I'm sorry to see the Valdan thread closed.

That thread provided one of the few reasons to even check the Lakshmi board on this site. The thread also carried an important awareness message. Most people are trustworthy and also tend to trust others in this game (as it should be). The populace of our server and others should know when a person breaks that trust, jumps on it, kicks it a few times and then burns it up with a blow torch.

Second, it sends out the message that if you do something truly despicable, you will be given s Scarlet Letter for it. If that keeps even one person from stealing a dynamis LS' bank, then we are the better for it (not saying that it will however).

Player warning threads tend to work better on well-moderated forums. Normally I would suggest someone simply start a general player warning thread, but the thing is, then you get events like Miracles showing up and (poorly) defending their honor, generally dragging everyone into the flamewar with them.

If this forum had a dedicated moderator, even just one that showed up once per day, this place could reasonably maintain a player warning thread. Having a mod around would make it easier to keep things in line. They wouldn't prevent the accused from coming forward and telling their story of course, but when it's clear they're just arguing back and slandering people they would be removed from the picture; naturally, if a "player warning" post were just slandering someone, that would also be removed.

Evidence/screenshots would be heavily encouraged as well, so that it's not all just hearsay.

As it stands though, we don't have a dedicated mod, so threads like the Valdan thread get way off track and eventually locked.

Well then >_>...........I dont think the mod would mind if we created a thread where it was soley based off player warnings.

Main rules of it would be that you cannot flame, start arguments, derail the thread etc.. and only make legitamite posts with screenshots or chatlogs to back you up as far as your evidence goes. I know BG has a player warning thing in their cross server applications place. Personally as long as I think that people act responsible about the thread and dont act like total Dbags it would be fine. I would even moderate it myself if I had mod status.

/nominates self for mod status for Lakshmi Server Warning Thread. >.>

But yes....im gonna make one for the sake of it. Mistress, if you deem it not worthy enough, you can go ahead and remove the thread

There was almost as many posts in that one thread than in every other thread on the first page on these boards combined.

Things like Miracles showing up is a good thing. People should have a right to give their side of the story, and if they are truely jerks, it will become obvious to everyone by the way they act in the forums.

Yes and no. I wouldn't call most of what Miracles was saying "telling his side of the story". Were I a bit more disillusioned it would even look like he was provoked into the tirade(but I know better than that).

... also, seriously, Default for seeing what most good mods would see...?

Indeed, that thread is the heart of Lakshmi.

Your best bet would be to discuss something other than Valdan, don't you think?

Is that why the thread got locked? All I see is "Requested for lock", which doesn't really tell me why the request was made.

Especially when the V-word hadn't been the point of discussion for 2+ pages. Smiley: laugh

I'm just glad it's DF that responded to the report of that thread and not, say, Kao. He probably would not be as nice about this thread. >_>

Yeah, not when people are posting threads like "do you want a cookie"? Look at the Valdan thread where people actually talked about FFXI stuff happening on Lakshmi and this forum got more traffic than it had in months.

There is a bit of truth to this, though. I checked Alla once a month before that thread existed. Smiley: glare

I spend far more time on =10, WHM, and RDM than anywhere else on Alla, so what happens here is of little concern to me.

Sus, don't take this the wrong way and I state this is only my personal opinion, but the cookie joke is getting very tired.

Personally, I'd rather see all the "cookie" threads that don't have anything to do with FFXI or Lakshmi be locked before threads like the one in question. This is the Final Fantasy XI Lakshmi boards, so threads like the Valdan one seem valid. We are allowed to praise the really good people on Lakshmi (see the sticky Whitelist), but cannot discuss the bad? Those people will come and argue their point, and those that feel slighted by them will argue their point. Everyone else can listen to both sides and come to their conclusions.

At the very least, it was serious converstaion / debate, even with the drama thrown in and made these boards actually interesting to visit.

Before you tell me again to stop making posts about cookies or that my cookie threads should be locked, why don't you stop making inane posts about your wife cheating on you when she hasn't, or about how you're yellow, or whatever other silly posts you've made in the past. I haven't once told you (before now) that your posts are irrelevant to the conversation. You know why? Because you're you and you have your own posting style. I don't agree with it part of the time, but I respect it. Heck, I've even joined in on the fun. This is a social forum because we're a community. We're not just the characters on the computer screen or the TV. Real life seeps into FFXI all the time.

If you're so tired of my cookie commentaries, then why don't you just avoid the forums? So much more simpler to remove yourself than to try to start drama over it. My cookie threads/responses are just me trying to lighten the mood. I'm sorry if you don't like cookies, but I do. If you haven't noticed, I bake cookies in real life. I suppose you wouldn't care because my cookie habits have absolutely nothing to do with FFXI and everything to do with real life.

What was wrong with the lolValdan thread was that instead of discussion about our infamous thief, we were discussing other players that had nothing to do with Valdan, which ultimately degraded down to flaming, he said/she said fights and insulting people's taste in clothing. Yes, we're Lakshmi and we're good at derailing, but I don't think it really helps anyone if they came to this forum for information about someone else. I will admit that it's ridiculousness was what made me laugh, but a serious discussion? Definitely not when it was locked.

Taking FFXI seriously is sad like people spending 3000.00 USD on NASA. People need cookies and kitties in order to have happier lives.

Correct, the Valdan thread was misleading and was totally not even remotely related to him in many posts. You can however, use the new thread that will allow you to explore smearing others reputations at will.

Now, gimme my cookie!

Is a thread derailing to other topics/people reason for a lock?

No, I'm not being condescending; just honestly curious because I thought the fact it had evolved into a general warning thread was part of it's charm. Smiley: smile

And, well, the recent 2-week explosion of that thread was very entertaining. I do so love drama. Smiley: clown

It's not like it being active ever really succeeded in warning the Lakshmi playerbase at large about him in the first place.

You really don't know how to let go, do you? What is your problem? You're the only one who has this weird hang up over cookies. Did you get a cookie wedged up your *** or something?? Like I said before, if you're not happy about something then leave. No one is making you read these forums.

I'm just saying that there have been plenty of threads that have been derailed and not locked (often for things not even slightly FFXI related), so I disagree with the suggestion it should be locked for being off the original topic.
