Well, while finding ways to procrastinate in finishing a clinical literature review, I wandered over to slashdot to see if anything new and geeky was happening. Amazingly enough, the first 2 articles caught my eye.

Discovered: the missing link that solves a mystery of evolution
http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/story/0,,1747926,00.html
"The Guardian is reporting the discovery of a missing link of evolution. From the article: "Scientists have made one of the most important fossil finds in history: a missing link between fish and land animals, showing how creatures first walked out of the water and on to dry land more than 375m years ago.""

And the second:
New device allows woman to see, even without eyes
http://rdu.news14.com/content/top_stories/default.asp?ArID=82612
"Neurosurgeon Kenneth Smith has performed a revolutionary operation on St Louis resident Cheri Robertson, connecting a camera directly to her optic nerve. The rig is in principle similar to Geordi La Forge's visor, albeit in very rudimentary form. At present, the 'image' consists of a number of white dots, as on an LED display. There are also governmental restrictions on this research, forcing Kenneth and his team to fly to Portugal to carry out the operation. If this technology takes off, the future will be bright for the sight-impaired."

The blurbs are from slashdot, click the links then for the actual articles. Pretty amazing stuff I think... anyone have any feelings one way or another?

That's a pretty cool technology that allows them to use cameras to simulate signals of the missing eye. Is anyone else thinking what I'm thinking though? Infrared sight, Heat sensing, nightvision, etc. built in?

Might as well throw in built in optical zoom while we're at it.

Too cool on them being able to give vision back, even if its not exactly what normal people see.
