Holy ****! We're not slacker gamers anymore, we're training for upper management? I'm at the same time amused, yet terrified.

Does that mean I will no longer seem odd when I go out and people ask me what I do for a living and I tell them I play video games?

Not only will it not seem odd, you should be getting a call from Microsoft to be their new CEO any day now!

I actually used the line "The team also has an active World of Warcraft guild" at a recruitment fair recently. It got me a couple of good candidates who would have passed us by otherwise.

As an aside, would offering a couple of [Fused Wiring] and a Demonslaying Enchant be counted as a taxable benefit?

Wasnt there a old TV commercial with some kid having listing how many space invaders or something that he killed on his resume?

Things have came along way since then. To be able to manage people you have never met and lead them to success is worth putting on a resume.

I've got my epic, do I get a raise now?

I don't think I could put guild leader/officer experience on my resume and be able to sit through an interview with a straight face.

Owning a LS is a surperb past experience reference if you are applying for a babysitting job.

There is a lot of crossover between being a guild leader and a team lead at work. I've been running guilds in one game or another for six or seven years now. Typically we have around 30 people, but in some games I've been the lead for over 100 players.

Everything you learn about how to handle people can be used in the working world. The skills you develop for getting folks to do what you want are essential. You can also learn the basics of how to gain and hold power in an organization by starting at the bottom and taking it over from within. This is fun and will serve you when you start out in a lowbie management position.

i've always been reluctant to tell prospective employers about my gaming habits.

My comment to them: Yes, I play computer games, most of the time focusing on mmorpgs.

Scenario A Response: Well, we dont want you browsing forums and web pages related to the game at work, sorry we can't hire you.

Scenario B Response: You actually thought that would make a difference in this interview? Loser!

But if the times are changing, then we all have the following information to support us.

Detail-oriented: I only wear the best gear I can which benefits my class. I always research what I want to be wearing at a certain level even before I reach level 5.

Goal-oriented: When I know that I have 5 quests to complete, I map out a route so that I can take care of them all before returning to town to get my rewards. I have no problems with sitting at my PC and kill 50 mobs to show the NPC that I can complete his tasks.

Prioritizing in a multi-tasking environment: If I have to travel to another zone for some quests, I finish out what I can in the current zone first. And if some opponent is bothering me, I call in some higher-level friends so we can take care of him and I can get back to leveling up or finishing my quests. I can do these things on my own but I'm not afraid to ask for help when I need it.

Working with and respecting others: Sometimes my guild mates (or other players in game) are real idiots but I dont call them that to their face. I send a whisper to another guild mate that I know will agree with me and we laugh at that guy. But on the outside, I know how to keep everyone on my good side because you never know when you'll need their help, even if they dont help that often. I always am sacrificing my time to help them though.

Scenario Response C: You have shown great person and communication skills. You're a real team player. You're hired!
