Woooh! Lasik horror stories!

I spent a summer hanging out in the derm-path ward at UAMS, and one of the doctors had the surgery performed a while back. All was well for two days, then on the third day, she woke up blind. It turned out the swelling hadn't gone down quite as expected, and her cornea (could be another part, can't remember specifically)was stretched and folded over on to itself, in both eyes. She had to spend the next few months flying out-of-state, having surgery to cut and stitch the cornea in to some semblance of a normal shape, and going back in to have each individual stitch removed when she felt it becoming loose in her eye. They managed to nip and stitch everything into place, luckily, giving her better vision than prior to the surgery (but not as good as the two days following). Lasik surgery almost cost her her career.

So, yes, there are horror stories out there. This one makes me not want to have the surgery myself.

I put them directly on my irises too. They just settle into place faster that way. Do whatever works. I do have to use a mirror though. I was always jealous of those people who could pop their contacts in and out without looking.

I never lost one, but I did have one pop out of my eye on the bus one day because my eyes were so dry. Ummm, what do I do with this now? I held it on my tongue until I got home. That grossed me out a bit but I didn't know what else to do to keep it from drying out and tearing.

Hell, if that I that sort of hardware, tampons would be the least of the things I'd be stickin' up in there.
