I've seen hellFollow

And her name is contact lenses. Given the choice between wearing contacts and remaining blissfully unaware of my horrible vision, I would happily choose blindness. What monster created those little hell-spawned devices and convinced people to gouge their own eyes out everyday?

On a completely unrelated note, it turns out I have horrible vision, and must now wear these tiny pain disks in my eyes.

...?

I'd wager you just have a bad brand. I've been wearing contact lenses for many years now, and the only time I have discomfort with them is if they dry out. That only happens when I either sleep with them in, or if I'm staring at a screen and not blinking enough.

What I would like to try, is that laser eye surgery. People keep freaking me out with horror stories about it, though. I guess I'll hold off 'til the technology is really sound.

I never heard any horror stories about laser eye surgery. Most of the time when it goes bad, the patient turns into a super hero who can shoot lasers out of their eyeballs. They then turn into vigilantes, roaming the streets at night in their crime-fighting costumes, reducing shady characters into piles of ash.

I've been wearing contacts for about 16 years now, and they're a god-send. I was pretty blind when I started wearing them, so I had coke-bottle glasses. Playing football and wrestling was a chore, as I could pretty much only see shapes. I still wear them pretty much every day, and will only stop after I finally get the lasic surgery done.

I had surgery, best $1200 I ever spent. It's been 12 years ago, I wasn't blind, but I HATED glasses. I promise given time you will get used to contacts. Besides they make these cool ones now... red eye, tiger eye, flowers, peace sign, zombies etc

I've been wearing contacts for awhile now and have never had any trouble with them. Though, I do prefer to just wear my glasses most of the time with how thin they are now-a-days.

When I do where them the only time there's any discomfort is late at night (my eyes get tired very easily - in which case my vision with contacts ends up being about the same as in the morning without 'em), when I don't blink enough (coincidentily I can win in any staring contest...it's true - see contacts do have a use Smiley: tongue), or when I sleep in them. Otherwise, I normally don't even notice they're in and sometimes go to push up my glasses and then remember I'm not wearing any, ^-^.

Though, I don't have anything "cool" like that. (in truth I think I'd feel kind of uncomfortable with even black out lens =/ meh) but I do have a few sets of blue and a few of green contacts that I use every now and then. The blue seriously cover up my brown eyes and stand out a lot - it's hard for people not to notice but the green kind of blend and just give me lighter eyes...maybe amber or some such color like that. All in all they're pretty cool but the color and design ones are a bit more uncomfortable then just plain clear ones and this is coming from someone that's been wearing them for several years now. I suppose it's a pay off - a bit of discomfort for a cool design or color in your eye.

@op
Hope you can adjust to them cause they really can be great.

p.s. mine are "acuvue: advanced" the Acuvue line tends to work really well so you may want to look into those.

I used to wear contacts and would love to go back, but since I develop dry eyes I gone back to glasses.

Just make sure you blink alot and keep eye drops handy and soon you'll forget they are there.

I'm sure it will get easier, but that first time trying to put them in was rather uncomfortable. I guess it's just trying to erase 27 years of not putting things on my eyeballs that's freaking me out right now. Not to mention getting them back out.

They make these new kinds of contacts now. Rather than wearing them on your eye surface, it's two discs of glass held together by a frame. You set it on your nose and some wires kind of loop over the back of your ears to secure them.

I forget what they're called but your eye doctor may know.

I'm going to ask about those. It sounds like that get-up could be better than my monocle.

I tried contacts awhile ago and it would take like half an hour for me to get them in. I cant keep my eye wide open while I have my finger poking it.

I am fine with wearing my glasses, they are pretty sleek.

I have 20/200 vision btw (nearsighted.)

I tried contact lenses at 16 and they hurt like hell. For awhile I went blind instead. Then I wore glasses until I was 23 when I tried Acuvue 2. They are so comfy I dont even know they're in, and frequently fall asleep forgetting to take them out.

Contact lens' have come a long way. If you can feel your lenses, then they're not fitting right. Find an eye doctor who will sit down with you and measure your eyes to find the proper fit.

I don't know if it was mentioned, but depending on your vision correction, you might want to try Night and Days. They last for up to 30 days, you can sleep in them, they do sometimes get dry tho, but really what contacts don't, they don't even feel like there. I've tried other contact lens's and well i noticed them every time, and yes, they were of correct size and diameter. Just talk to your eye doctor about Night and Days and find out what s/he has to say about it for you.

I wore glasses and contacts for over 20 years. I preferred the gas permables since I could feel them and getting them in and out wasn't as much of a chore for me.

I had Lasik surgery last year and while it was a scary experience it was the best thing I have ever done. I had thought I would not be a candidate for it since my vision was so bad but once I went in for the consultation and found out I was good for it, I didn't hesitate in digging in the bank for the $4500 it cost for it.

Allen, are they contacts for astigmatism? That's what I have, and those contacts are thicker and weighted, so you tend to feel them a bit more than contacts just for someone who's near/far sighted. After a while you'll get used to them though. I usually don't know mine are in.

I've heard of those, but given the fact that I'm really really ridiculously good-looking I can't see myself wearing them. That and I have a deviated septum which prevents me from wearing anything that puts pressure on my nose.

I do in fact have astigmatism. My eyes are shaped more like footballs, which they tell me is wrong.

When you first start wearing contacts they're pretty crappy. That's how it was for me.

Agitating, painful, frusturating. Over time it gets a lot easier. Especially with the devices now a days. I havent tried to wear contacts in like 3 years though.

Those are the ones I wear now, though I refuse to wear them for more than 4 days in a stretch. I wore the first trial pair I had for a solid week, and it took about 30 minutes to get them out of my eyes. I could only imagine how difficult it would be after 4 weeks. Besides, it's good to give your eyes a rest.

And when I first started wearing them, yeah it was a pain in the *** to get them in/out. Now, I barely think about it, and don't even need a mirror to do it. Which is good, cause lets be honest, I'm ugly as sin.

I have been wearing gas permeable contacts since I was in 5th grade and I absolutely avoid wearing my glasses at every turn. I can't keep my contacts in overnight. I can't wear soft lenses because my vision is so bad. It's so bad that my eye doctor told me that even if I tried Lasik surgery, my sight would be maybe 20/80 at best and I'd still have to wear contacts or glasses. Smiley: cry

I've worn contacts for about 10 years, and I love 'em. I'd get the laser eye surgery, but I'm too cheap. I'd wear glasses, but I hate the way they look on me. I only ever put them on to let my eyes rest for a day or so.

Ditto.

I hate glasses. I'll wear them around the house on a weekend if I don't have anywhere to go. But I just can't stand the feel of them on my face. And also, my eyes need a break every now and then from the contacts.

So I *love* glasses solely because I would have been poked in the eye many, many times if I did not ware them. The worst was with hot solder. I totally understand people not liking to ware them. They are annoying at times - particularly when misplaced. I have great difficulty locating them because my vision sucks and I only own one pair. It's basically squint and search until found, or annoy my wife (her perscription is really close to mine in the right eye so I can badger her to look for me or to borrow a pair).

The good thing about my wearing glasses is that by virtue of taking them off, we both look better.
