Yeah, wouldn't suprise me. Seeing how hard they checked backgrounds when I worked for the schools in California, I am sure New Mexico is even more lax...by the way, one of them lives right across the street from an elmentry school/ park. Ughh. Smiley: banghead

That might be a violation of his/her parole, if they're on parole.

South Carolina displays no information about the actual convictions of the person.

I prefer this (linky) site for the ease of use with the map.

It seems that around here most schools are in low-income, inner-city areas. Cheap housing is there. The worst sex offenders have been in and out of jail, can't hold/find a job, and so live in the areas they can afford... around the schools.

Great, right?

I can see how these sites cause panic, what if the guy who lives three houses down from me had sex with is 16 y/o girlfriend at the age of 18? Non-violent, but still convicted of a sex crime. If some jerk-off sees this site and eggs his car or tp's his house, how does that make my neighborhood look?

Also: how much can I trust a service that cannot accuratly place my house to do the same for sex offenders?

I find the map on that one a lot harder to use, but the amount of information available seems better.

EDIT: On further investigation, it isn't that the site has more info. I just happened to click on one with convictions in Iowa and Iowa had a lot more detail than Arkansas.

Michigan places pictures and most information of sex offenders. Also registered sex offenders are required to "check in" twice a year to confirm their address, etc..

There are a suprisingly high number of offenders in my town of about 500 people (45 offenders total)

Most of them are over 65+...scary

The google maps part is fine, it is their customization that I find tedious. Have to be zoomed in to level 3 to see the offenders, have to click the offenders in the box on the right side of the screen to make them show up on the map, etc. At least on my browser (Firefox 1.0.7) that's how it was. One the other one I could just type in an address, see color-coded squares for the offenders, click on the squares for details.

You don't have to tell me! When I head into town it's like I have to dodge all of the wrinkly wang flapping in the breeze just to get to the dairy section...

It's hell here.

The map from angryundead had more detail on the offender in my area that they had mapped, but on the side it said that the other four were not mapped and had no info on them .

With all those sickos around the dairy section are you sure that cream you are buying for your coffee is really cream?

I think that the google one only shows a certain class of offender. The other one shows all classes.

HAHA , I found somone I knew from my old neighborhood, little punk-*** yo-boy Smiley: lol that's so funny.

with all the 13 year old ****/****** around that ghetto it no wonder there isn't an offender on every street.

I'm debating whether to show my mother this site.... as hone of her favourite pastimes is peering out the window and gossiping about the new "black people" across the street.. or the fact that she "saw cops the other day" even though they are everywhere.. Smiley: grin

I wonder why most of the sex offenders near me live in Delaware instead of Pennsylvania. Never did trust those Delawarians.

Well I just threw up. Living in Atlanta, well hello zillions of offenders. At least our neighborhood will send everyone a notice when one moves in. It has only happened once and they only stayed 2 months. (I like my cocoon).

But....omg I am from smalltown KY and so I checked and omg, omg a guy I graduated with is on there. Lifetime registration for assualt and molesting a child under 12, 2 counts. Geeze that is sickening.

*sigh*
