As the 10 day trial is N America only some kind soul is shipping me a US Copy.

So.
Any Arsylumites able to point me to:

a) a site that goes through the basics
b) some tips about which faction/race/class to start as a n00b to join the Arsylumites guild (whichever is the current incarnation)
c) Any info that makes sure I can play on US servers. (I.e. is all I need a US copy, or do I need to provide a US billing address/declare my hatred for furriners etc

Kthxbye

Not sure what extra hurdles one may need to go through in order to play on US servers from some filthy third world country, but perhaps I can help at least a little.

For the basics, I recommend the the official WoW websiteand here at Alla's. It really is a very simple game at first; does a nice job of warming you up to things quickly. So really, not alot of prerequisite reading is required, just jump in and play.

As for the most recent incarnation of the Asylumites, we are now known as Lunatics, and are based on the Shadow Council server, alliance side. That means that your main toon will need to be a pretty race in order to play with us: elf, dorf, gnome or human. We also have an alt guild for when the need to be a foul orc, troll, cowman or animated corpse arrises. It is called appropriately "We". Currently just about everyone has the power to toss out a guild invite, so you can simply type /who lunatic and /w some random guildie for an invite.

I'm sure there will be conflicting reports on what one needs to do in order to play on US servers from across the pond, but best of luck to you.

I'm seeing conflicting posts on the interwebs.
Some say that so long as it's a US copy with a US Key I should be fine.

Others say that since release 1.9.1 (whoever she is), it will only work from a US IP address.

We'll see.

Hope to see you in-game

I have a Trial key, if you want it just send me a PM, you need to have installed a US copy of WoW tough.
Thanks, but

a) I have a US copy Fed-exing its way to me as we speak
b) I don't want to **** about with a trial, and
c) I wouldn't take advice from a rancid cu[Azure][/Azure]nt like you.

But like I say, thanks

thanks guys. Sorry to clutter the forums up here when I could get it from our forums, but last night I was not home, and someone I don't see often was interested in trying out gaming, specifically WOW. I couldnt find our own forums and saw a few of you peeking on here.

I know someone that plays from UK.

He gets a friend in the US to send him those pre-paid game cards every 6 months, and pays his account with those. Works for him.

Does anyone have all of the current patches on a CD they could send my way? I could be persuaded to log in, but I can't wait 98 hours for WoW to patch up. Stupid dial-up
...
#19 Mar 14 2006 at 10:53 AM Rating: Good
Are all of the patches cumulative? Or do I have to download each one and install it?
#20 Mar 14 2006 at 10:55 AM Rating: Decent
I had to reinstall and repatch back when I was on dial-up. If I remember right it took about 36 hours.

You can download a single giant patch to update from fresh to most recent. It takes a long time though and I had to get a download manager to do reconnects after my dial-up timed out. Took... 16? 20? hours of just leaving the computer running. I used Fileplanet or something like it because the WoW patcher is worthless.

I'd mail you the one I downloaded but I seem to have trashed it already Smiley: frown

I'll have to check fileplanet then.

My connection only stays up for about 6 hours, m/b I can head to McD's in town and use their free wireless for a hour or two.

I'm hoping to pickup a game card this weekend, so maybe I'll be in by the weekend.
