If it offends parents so much why would they get it for their children? Wouldn't it make more sense to skim through the book first than to complain and have it moved to a different section?

Maybe it's just me but I would filter the stuff that my kids want to watch, read, and hear. Plus depending on the age range of the book, it would make a good time to talk about sexuality as mainstream as homosexuals have become. Just my thoughts nothing more.

Here's my favorite part:

Quote:
Barbara Read, the Rolling Hills’ director, said experts report that adoptions aren’t unusual in the penguin world. However, moving the book to the nonfiction section would decrease the chance that it would “blindside” readers, she said.

What a coput. The book was moved because certain people think homosexuality in any form is immoral and somehow learning about 2 male penguins caring for an egg will make their kid gay. I guess they better move that story about the gorilla caring for that cat because that, too, is unnatural and must therefore be immoral.

To see some inciteful comments about the book and to see what some so-called "Christians" counter with, check out the reviews on Amazon.

I want my children to grow up knowing that there are a lot of different kinds of families in the world, and this is a charming, non-preachy example of one kind of family that you don't see in too many childrens' books.

I found this reading those Amazon reviews. It's nice to see some people realize that there are irregular families out there. My fiancee student teaches and one of her kids has 2 mommies, and you have to make sure you don't talk about her dad. The child thinks it's okay to have 2 moms and doesn't realize what it really means.

It means that he'll get picked on more?

Well, not necessarily, one of the kids at the school my fiancee works at has two dads, and none of his classmates give a crap.

Considering the vast number of America's children living in single parent households, as well as those with no parents at all, 2 care-givers for a child (or children) should be welcomed with open arms. Instead, there's a push to prohibit gays from even adopting children because (based on no credible scientific evidence) it will have potentially "adverse effects" on the child. What's with our priorities?

People can be so judgemental, because both penguins were male. I guess they would rater see a child in a foster home or on the street insted of living with parents of the same sex. :( I guess they would rather the child not to grow up know that all people are the same no matter what sexual orientation.
Like the OP said, if they dont like it, they should have looked throught the book first. But, it clearly show how people are still not tolerant, and how the "fear" of homosexuals is still here.

How about this? Yes, two male penguins taking care of a child. Try not to think of it as two gay penguins, but two penguins who seek a common goal, to raise a young penguin to become one of the pack? Why is it, that they always are gay, or will turn the child gay? Why is that everyone's first thought? I'm sure if you brought this back in the 1800's or early 1900's or even later than those times, that they would not think of it as a gay issue.

I should have worded that different. She thinks that it is normal for children to have 2 mommies instead of a mother and father. None of that bothers me, as long as they're good parents.

Wow, nothing like people wanting to remain ignorant to the facts. All that this is is a story about something that happened, nothing more. Would a newspaper that reports this story (of the 2 penguins, not of the book being moved) be hidden because people don't like it? I don't think so.

You take that back you son of two bItches. Honestly though, what has made you so maladjusted? Was it your hetero parents that taught you to think this way? Why am I even bothering replying to you? Oh yeah, it's because you insulted the divine act of two women lapping eagerly at one another.

edited because without the "r" in eagerly it becomes rather beastial, and I'm not defending that, only downloading it.

Stop beating off to lesbian pornos and understand that the majority of lesbians out there are nastier than your average heterosexual woman.

And you bet your f'ucking sorry *** that the last thing I want to see is two butch lesbian activists licking each other's ********. But if that's what turns you on, knock yourself out.

If I had two dads, I'd be the best dressed kid in school, and I'd really know how to get in touch with my feminine side. And if anyone gave me **** about it, both of my dads would double team their dad and kick his ***. My dads would also have a job working at a salon for celebrities. I'd get an assload of autographs and I'd even get to meet Allakhazam, George Clooney, and John Stewart.

If I had two moms, I'd be the coolest kid in school because I'd have two hot ***** moms. How awesome would that be! They'd star in an assload of pornos and we'd be fucking rich because of it. And since they're my adoptive moms, they'd let me watch them get it on. They'd even teach me how to work my toungue real good. Then I could bribe everyone in town with my Lesbian moms' sexy photos, even the town police!

I personally think adoptive homosexual parents would kick ***!

You can't grow up in an environment void of normality. I'd sure as hell wouldn't like it to live with the fact that my "parents" are biologically attracted to each other for obscure reasons. And of course, have fun growing up a normal childhood by bringing your "daddies" to the local soccer/polo/golf game.

I agree that two dads are vile and unnatural. Especially their hair.

Now as far as people being uptight about the stupid book, I wonder if they missed this completely:
Quote:
The illustrated children’s book, And Tango Makes Three, is based on a true story of two male penguins in New York City’s Central Park Zoo.

The penguins, named Roy and Silo, adopted an abandoned egg in the late 1990s.

Quote:
Rolling Hills director Barbara Read said she consulted with staff at several zoos and the zoology department of the University of Oklahoma before moving the book.

She said the experts all said adoptions aren’t unusual in the world of penguins.

Didn't you guys see March of the Penguins? I'm sorry to say that I did. It did teach me that during the time the eggs are being cared for in the wild only males are left while the females go to replace precious calories used up by the birthing process and to collect food for the soon to be hatched baby.

You're basically left with a big cluster of male penguins all caring for eggs. Though it seems that the males without eggs make the journey back for food as well. It doesn't seem unlikely that some males would stick around to help ensure the survival of the species even though there is nothing they could do besides provide additional insulation.

In a zoo providing a hand would be very easy as food is at hand and the temperatures aren't as brutal. It seems to me like a simple imperative of ensuring that the species survives. I'm not sure that the book doesn't have an agenda though, as it doesn't appear to me from what I've read that the penguins were in a true mating relationship. But then again, whats to say the book even portrays ideas that hint at that.

Gay butsecks is gross. Hot lesbians are just that. What is so hard to understand about this concept. Geez.

March of the Penguins was about emperor penguins. I'm not sure what flavor of penguin the ones in this story were but there's lots who live in friendlier climates.
