And no, I don't mean the dessert :P

Anyone else like this band? I really really like their older stuff (like the songs off Prolonging the Magic or Fashion Nugget).

You don't like Cake?

It's also probably Smash's favorite band...but that might be just because it reminds him of cake.

I'm not much of an Indie kind of guy. I'm more in to the heavier stuff, like Down, Type O Negative and the older stuff, Led Zepplin, Queen, that sort of thing.

I suppose if I heard them on the radio I might know a few tunes but nothing sticks with me.

I like Cake but I probably would have cut them off about 2 albums ago maybe 3.

Alternative/Grunge rock FTW!!

I still have "The Distance" on my iPod.

Wasn't Cake considered ska?

I had never heard of ska music before I was listening to Cake with some friends and they told me that's what it was.

Wiki fever !

I enjoy "sheep go to heaven , goats go to hell" an absurd amount.

I think some of their best songs came off the two albums I mentioned:

Hem of your Garment
Open Book
Stickshifts and Safetybelts
Let Me Go
Walk on By
Mexico

And no, they're not ska. Another great band I want to see if anyone likes, the Cat Empire, is more ska-ish.

My very favorite song of theirs is "Love you Madly"

My other favorites are, in no particular order:
Never There
Comfort Eagle
Friend is a 4 letter word
Short Skirt, Long Jacket

I adore "The Distance"! I heard one or two of their albums from around that time and really loved them. Great stuff. But I was poor and couldn't afford them. Later on, I had forgotten about them. There's so much great music out there and never enough money or time.

It's a good thing that everyone puts so much stock in your taste in music.

I'm a big fan of Cake. I've got all their albums except for their first one and the rarities/B-sides one they just put out. They are still in regular rotation for me.

Cake is not ska. Not even a little bit.

Put "Love you Madly" on repeat four or five times...you'll learn, really.
