If you stick it out to a maxed out job, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you are one of the most bloody minded stubborn sunuvvabitches in the universe.

From the sound of it, the job system sounds a little like FFT.

It's not the fighting system that's the problem, apart from the ridiculously long time it takes for mana to recharge. And don't think you can pick a melee job to escape the mana recharge, you'll be waiting around at the end of every fight for your healer and magic nukers to charge back up.

I seriously recommend against it shroomy. Unless you enjoy spending 3-7 hours a day in a virtual world. SE made probably the biggest time sink ever.

The only recommendation I can make for playing the game even slightly on your terms is Beastmaster. Then again, you'd still need to level White Mage and Warrior to 37 to have viable subs. I encourage you to buy in-game currency. You'll save yourself a huge headache. Indeed, lack of gil or time were always my biggest reasons for quitting.

FFxi is the only game I'd ever understand why gamers break a TOS, skew the game design for every player, and buy in-game currency for.

I refuse to believe that FFxi has any relation to any other FF game, apart from a license to use copyrighted material.

But ****, I still have some great memories from FFxi. Even if I did give up at level 60. It popped my MMORPG cherry, and it will always be special to me.

It's the only game I ever considered spending money on. Then I realized I was about to spend eighty dollars on something that wasn't real and I quit (for the last time I might add).

If I had spent anymore time making squid sushi, wizard cookies and gold ingots, I probably would have gone on a homicidal rampage.

I just went ahead and fixed that for you. I properly built party with properly prepared players will not ever have to wait on MP.

I was talking in another thread about buying a Dell laptop. If I did this, I could THINK about playing FFXI again when my friend's on. I'm sure even the cheapest Dell could run FFXI half assed. I heard they're bringing the Return to Vana'diel campaign back. I quit it again a few weeks ago after getting a new Taru to level 20BLM and being frustrated at the infinite lack of parties at that level.

If I could have my 38BST back, we might be talking though.

Trouble is, every time I think about the game I get excited about the concepts. It's a fun game on paper but when you get down to it, it really is just a 5+ year old major timesink where everyone's already level 75 and it's hard to get parties, and Gil is still pretty much buy it online or be broke, because everyone who has it is afraid to lose it because of the recession the economy's in. Everything's dropping in price so fast the people with Gil are scared to spend it and so it's hard to make any.

At least, that's how I felt when I tried getting back into it from scratch again. Joining FFXI from scratch now days is NOT, NOT something I suggest. Like I said, give me my 38BST Hume back, we'll talk. I had most of my subjobs leveled too.
