Why are his movies so hit and miss?

I love some of his movies, and others are just so god damn painful I can't even watch them.

Does he write his own jokes for the movies? You could have the best actor in the world but if the script sucks from day one its still going to suck.

Ferrell was NEVER funny. Ever. Stiller has had a few good movies. Kids liked Night at the Museum, I liked Dodgeball and Mystery Men. But Meet the Fockers? Duplex? Ugh.

Regardless, he picks the script. If he picks crummy writing, then it's as much his fault as the guy who wrote it.

And Will Farrell is a God.

On topic : the box office looks fairly lackluster at the moment. I'd say Heartbreak Kid , but I know nothing about the movie and stiller is very hit or miss.

I liked ferrell in Stranger then fiction. Ben stiller seems to be really good when he has a cast that supports him well, but has trouble on his own.

I liked Ferrel in Stranger Than Fiction.

I liked Stiller in Zoolander and Meet The Parents. (Not Meet The Fockers.)

They're both pretty hit-and-miss. And honestly, I'd rather watch any Adam Sandler or Jim Carey movie.

Agreed. I think most of his movies sucked though. Dodgeball was ruined by him.

Ya know, I was going to argue with you about the Dodgeball comment, but then I realized... his was my least favorite character. He had some funny one liners ("Nobody makes me bleed my own blood. NOBODY!") but that's about it.

The blonde in that movie is his wife, by the way.

Yea, I've always assumed he's either hung like a horse or is actually funny in person, because I just can't see how he got her any other way.

He also seems like a genuinely nice guy.

I'm surprised to see such variation of opinion in Ben Stiller. Seems like equal amounts of pretty good and suck.

For what it's worth, I like him in the romantic comedy roles (Something about Mary, the one he did with Jennifer Anniston, I think it was her Along came Polly), but can't stand the straight up "Look at me I'm funny" roles like dodge ball.

Night at the Museum was neither, and it was somewhere in the middle, I'd say.

Regardless, I can't say that Stiller sucks as an actor. Sometimes you gotta take a script to keep up the lifestyle, and sometimes those scripts aren't as funny as the Farrelly brothers would like them to be.

My brother does cocaine and hits his wife. True story.

Speaking of cocaine ,I was at this party one time , and joe offered up a blunt , which I shot down because I don't smoke, but for some reason he got all mad with me because I "was only drinking" and preceded to tell me "hey , at least I don't do cocaine". As he finishes his sentence ,we herd a large sniffing near us, and see stuss doing cocaine (wtf?) We stare at him for a minute, and he responds with "Hey , at least I don't do heroin" We spent the rest of the night looking for someone that did heroin because we wondered what his(or her) scapegoat would be.

I actually think night at the museum was the best movie he's been in (acting wise), but then again, Dick van **** was a villain in that movie, and that more or less gave me nightmares.

edit: ******* filters.

Walken is the same way, he takes a script to keep up the lifestyle. Which explains Joe Dirt.

Yea, that doesn't really work. You all say it does, but I've yet to see a girl with a guy just because he was genuinely nice.
