Yeah, thanks for the effort, though.

Just not my thing. Any of it. Well, except for the ******* shocking.

Man, you suck.

Not even Carrion? Jesus. That's like, the best song ever.

Well, what is your thing? I might be able to suggest... something.

Sammy's Song is the greatest song in existence.

Sorry, don't recall which one that was. And I've already deleted the whole mix, because I didn't like any of it.

I'd make a better music compilation

All types of stuff, but I'd be hard pressed to name even one genre that I dig unquestionably. Goose was trying to help Anna and I, at least I believe it was Anna and me, to find some newer music that we might like. Honestly, just about everything he sent me sounded like the same, moody, pretentious song.

I make mixes that are bookended by Redman and Bruce Springsteen, if that helps at all.

Well, at least Anna liked it. Or at least I assume she did, and that she liked it so much that she quit the forums to isolate herself so that she could listen to it 24/7 without distraction

Pfft. I should've known that a Neanderthal such as yourself could never appreciate such divine music. Smiley: grin

I don't see how anyone could dislike this song

It's not too bad, I prefer Stereophonics though.

Normally I'm an alternative/head banger type, but this song is one of my new faves.

It puts me in a great mood no matter what's going on. It's such a happy song Smiley: grin

Well, are there any genres or popular (not necessarily modern) bands that you really don't like?

I'm not a big fan of any country from the past twenty years and any rap from the last ten, off the top of my head.

And Goose, that song does nothing for me. I can't name one aspect of it that I like.

Well, I don't HATE it, but I wouldn't pay for it, and I wouldn't play it if I had a choice.

Strikes me as bland and inoffensive, and that's about it.

All right, a quick playlist using only youtube. Pay no attention to the videos. I don't know what you have and haven't heard, so puh-leeze at least use lube if I put something you know.

Guster - The Airport Song
Muse - Knights of Cydonia (the exception to the no-watch rule, this video is so simultaneously cheesy and awesome it's stunning)
Steely Dan - King of the World
Phish - A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing
Traffic - Dear Mr. Fantasy

Node, seriously...

Steely Dan is all about the Deacon Blues.

I much prefer Dodo's taste in music, but sadly I've heard all these except the Guster song, which I did sort of dig. I reckon listening to it a few more times it could grow on me.

The Traffic song is by far my favorite of these selections, and even better, there was a link to Cheap Trick staring at me for when it ended.

However, Goose's goal was to introduce me to some recent songs and artists that I might like, and Steely Dan, Traffic and Phish aren't exactly new.

Still, appreciate the effort and just know that I think you suck less than Goose.

Also, Catt is right, Deacon Blues. Smiley: thumbsup

I also add that Muse is one of the very few current artists that I actually would go and buy a CD of. A large amount of their songs are catchy, at least to me.

When i was 15 years old, my idea of foreplay then was to listen to Willie Nelson while snorting coke off the girls tits I had been fucking at the time.

No, mostly just other 15 year olds, sometimes 14 y/o's, sometimes 16, and 17 y.o, but on my 16th, I got to nail a 21 year old.

I was trying to go for the lesser-known songs by well-known artists route, I'll see what else I can dig up. It's somewhat less likely that BT will like these, but I have to share. Smiley: tongue

Brand New - Limousine (seems like standard emo fare, but stick it out. It grew on me.)
The Arcade Fire - Antichrist Television Blues
The Decemberists - The Island ... Part 2
Explosions in the Sky - Have You Passed Through This Night?

I don't know why, but I have difficulty getting into most of Steely Dan's more "jazzy" works. I don't really like most of Aja (though the title track is really great), but I adore Countdown to Ecstasy and Pretzel Logic.

BT, if you like Guster you might like Caviar.

And I'm fairly certain that The Blood Hound Gang is right up your alley...
#75 Oct 11 2007 at 11:01 PM Rating: Decent
I don't really think that new music in general has much to offer to BT's taste. I mean, as far as older stuff goes, I'm sure there are plenty of overlaps in our taste, but maybe not as many as I thought. I guess I got carried away with the mention of George Harrison a while back and then the coincidence that I had been listening to Lost in The Flood on the same day that you linked to it on youtube. Probably not all that similar tastes if I got into it.

I can probably name less than 10 good post-2000 artists that are similar in sound to the pre-1980s music I listen to, and they're probably not at the top of my list as far as this decade goes. So it was dumb to assume that general good taste would carry over. That's not to say if I had made a mix with that in mind, that you would have liked it. I guess there are plenty of old dudes still making music that never changes thoughSmiley: clown. I mean how old is Bob now? Dude must be pushing 100 with a discography like that.

Anyway, if you don't see anything in Carrion then, well, you're broken. There's no helping you.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I said in that other thread when you made the mix for me. It bums me out, though, because I have so few albums to look forward to.

And Dylan is easily the most disappointing concert I've ever been to. He is beyond washed up, and has been for a long time.

Now, as for the remark that there are plenty of people making music that never changes, that's what I don't like about that Carrion song and the other stuff you uploaded for me. There's just nothing challenging about it. Lyrically, musically; it's just all so boring. I feel like I've heard that song a thousand times, by a multitude of bands. Not knocking your taste, because God knows it could be a lot worse.

Here I make another example of how much of a dinosaur I am: I still buy CDs. Tonight, while grinding up chicken into delicious paste for dogs, I was listening to the one this song is off of. Largely because I caught this performance on Letterman last night.

That's more my style. I'm old. I need music that grooves to remind me I'm still alive.
