I just got into this stuff, and it's pretty fascinating.

Although I'm sure you know, Bonsai is the art of miniaturizing trees and making them appear old. This is accomplished by planting the tree in a small pot, and trimming back the upper foliage. Some bonsai trees go for thousands of dollars!

So...anyone else into Bonsai? Ever heard of/seen it? Wonder why I'm making a thread?

Always wanted to do it. Bought a kit, all I needed was the tree. I kinda lost interest though. Maybe I'll try again when I get more free time.

I've tried many times over the years to get into Bonsai. Unfortunately, I am death incarnate to these little trees, and as an act of mercy, I gave it up.

From what I understand, any real bonsai costs a small mint. Any of the cheap ones you find at local garden centers and the like are actually just dwarf juniper shrubs that have been trimmed back to look like a tree.

It sounds interesting and I wouldn't mind giving it a shot, but it doesn't seem like the sort of hobby you get results in just by "giving it a shot". Takes a lot of time and work to maintain the plants and keep them on the line between stunted and dead. I honestly doubt I have the patience for it.
