People are gullible...Follow

My dad recently sent me that email rumor about the Swiffer Wet-Jet killing pets. My husbands mother also sent him that information a few weeks ago and even called us up to make sure we didn't kill our pets by using our Swiffer.

At the time, I didn't think anything of it. I'm not a fan of mopping anyway, so, not mopping for a while didn't bother me any. Didn't really believe it any, but didn't mind not mopping. :)

But I figured, since my dad just sent me that message... I'd look into it, especially since when I actually read it (as opposed to just being told the gist of it by my husband) a few things didn't sound right to me. (I'm a veterinary student.)

So, I looked it up today on the internet, figuring if it was a hoax or true, there'd be information out there (gotta love the internet).

I found: ASPCA Message

And: Snopes debunking of it

And I found it very easily (yahoo.com, search for: swiffer + liver). Even more ... dismaying, is the fact that in the same search that I found the snopes article, I found people "passing on the word!" in bulletin boards and message boards.

Just how gullible IS most of the worlds population? And.. if you're on the freaking internet to post about the "information" anyway, why don't you do some research before you sound like an uninformed moran. ;)

The Swiffer Wet Jet system contains water (90-100%), propylene glycol n-propyl ether or propylene glycol n-butyl ether and isopropyl alcohol (1-4%).

These are the same ingredients in any household cleaner: Windex, 409, etc. Sure if you feed them directly to your pets they'd get sick. Same would happen if you fed them the soap used in traditional mopping.

Wow, I must be bored.

On the other hand, how do you tell your concerned friends and family that they're being gullible morans?

I can tell you from experience, they really don't appreciate when you come back and say "oh, by the way, I did a little checking up on that XXbogus issueXX you told me about. It's actually not true. You can find confirmation on XXreputable sourceXX website.

Oh well, since they're going to be irritated either way, may as well just start telling them: Use some common sense, ya gullible moran!

I actually got a nasty email about Harry Potter cultivating devil worship a couple years back. One of the sources cited in the article was http://theonion.com

But I think humans get along alright. There are about four (five?) billion here on earth so the species seems to be doing OK. Even for being so gullible. Its the poor cheetahs I worry about. Not that they are gullible, but just that their lives are so rough.

You really do have to feel for the cheetahs.

They do have Chester working the PR angle for them though. Perhaps the cheetah resurgence isn't far off.

You really don't know gullible some people are until they start ranting about how dangerous "dihydrogenmonoxide" is and why it should be banned.

You know, gullible is not listed in the English dictionary.
