Why should us Oakland fans be jealous? I mean, sure, we don't have a nice new stadium, or Barry Bonds, nor are we able to eat sushi while sitting in $40 seats. But there is a bit of solace in this fact: World Series won since moving to the Bay Area: A's 4, Giants 0.

Baseball players have less of an individual impact on their teams performance or even revenue drawing than basketball players do. The Giants without Bonds are a slightly worse team, Minnesota without Garnet are the Clippers.

In proportion to their individual contributions to the sucess or failure of the team Baseball players are easily the most overpaid.

That's not because they're gready bastards, everyone's a greedy *******. The Baseball players just have the best Union.

that be as it may, to me it still makes them not worth watching. 20+ years ago the game as played for the love of the game. today its played only to make $. that ruins the game, this is why steriods are rampent, that is why in the 80-90s drugs were just something a fair amount of players did/do and no one cared. that was the time the game started to change from a game, to a money making scheme.

after 2 strikes and players refusing to take to the field because of bugs i will never have respect for anyone who plays that game, nor will i watch them again.

ill take my money and spend it on players who are earning it.

Would you quit bringing up the goddamm bugs, Singdall?

Seriously though, if you want to "spend your money on players who earn it" or just enjoy a purer baseball experience, try a minor league game sometime.

Good place to bring the family without having to dish out 200 bucks, too.

And you can get all the autographs you want. Who knows, someday they might become famous.

Born and raised Tribe fan - it's in my blood - I have no choice - been out in Calif for 26 years - still a die hard Chief Wahoo wearer (forgive me - but I'm just tired of being PC).

Wow, they were still paying Albert Belle? They really got screwed on that one.

Yup - Tribe got rid of him at the right time - he was my daughter's favorite player, but I let her know what a jerk he was. My son's favorite player was Manny Ramirez - so that's gone now, too. My wife's favorite was the double play combination of Vizquel/Alomar - that's gone as well (although we let Robbie go at the right time.

Bunch of younsters on the team now - we'll see what happens in a few years...
Bottom line, though - unless you put LOTS of $$ into the team, you can't compete for more than a year or two with the Yankees and their megabucks TV contracts...

Imagine attempting to focus on a 90 mph projectile coming your direction while trying to deal with bugs in your eyes... It's not safe - way as well play in the middle of a lightening storm, too. I agree - they're overpaid babies, but I can understand their attitude on the bugs.

One, the game has ALLWAYS been played for MONEY. ALLWAYS. That's why it's called PROFESSIONAL baseball. If you want to watch Baseball that isn't played for money, go watch a high school game or something. The bloody 1919 White Sox threw a World Series. Why? For money.

Steroids have been rampant since they were acessable by players. If you think Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle or whoever you think it was that was more "pure" than the players of today wouldn't have been first in line to shoot up you're an idiot.

Look, whatever makes you happy. I'm certain that the $100 a year you would have spent on Baseball will cripple the leuge and teach those bug-phobic players a lesson!

Smash got to it first, but I would like to add that for many years professional baseball players believed that chewing tobacco made them better. Thats drug use to attain higher levels of achievement.
The rules of baseball have been changing constantly since the beginning of the sport because of cheating. The rule books didnt always say that the use of vasoline and sandpaper are illegal just as steroids were not always illegal.
Athletes have and will always push the envelop with new drugs and ways of getting an edge.

Perhaps, but the problem is ... they are under a curse. We know it, you know it, and they know it. My team is living under a curse as well, although not as deep or famous as yours. Indians fan live under the Curse of Rocky Colavito. Red Sox fans, however, live under the Curse of Babe Ruth.

Sorry - close but no cigars for us... But the Tease can be fun.

Ouch. I'll have you know that I live in Sacramento, wait, that's not good either. Well, at least our colors are better. (Ok, I admit, I'm grasping at straws here. The A's are just more affordable, and more fun to watch, period.)

what i wouldnt give to see the Cubs win a world series. i think i finally would be able to die happy. And by the way, the Yankees can burn in hell as far as i'm concerned. They are the tyrannical rulers of baseball.
