See this is my belief. I'm agnostic btw. We have to deal wit hthe fact that there may and there may not. We hope there is a after life but we have to achknowledge that so far we are unsure. More and more are starting to althrough not admiting becoming athiest. Become Agnostic. At least hope that there is something after . A eternal sleep is not what we want.

No thought
No feeling
No sight
No Sound
No darkness
No Light
Nothing

It is not a sleep. There is no dream. We will never awake unless there is a after life. That's why life is so precious to make the most before we go to where we face our hopes or the denial of it.

If you can believe in some giant king in the sky and his son who came back from the dead and are really one being(??) who watches everything you do, gets all concerned about what you do and can make everything better when you die, more power to ya.

Once again everyone forgets the futility of trying to reason with someone about a subject that they are utterly convinved is the one true truth.

As near as I can figure, christianity serves 3 purposes:

1: Controlling people...don't do that, god hates it when you ________. god really wants you to ______. If you ______ you're going to this place where you're tortured for eternity after you die. You get the idea.

2: Making people feel better about the fact that they're eventually die and rot and there's not a damned thing you can do about it. Golly, if I've done what god wants, when I die I'm gonna go live in a perfect place that makes up for this ****** world I didn't ask to be born into.

3: Giving up responsibility. God's gonna take care of me...
God would want me to do this, it must be okay. I'm gonna pray and make everything better.

It's really quite childish when you think about it...this big father figure's gonna make everything better.

And what's all this crap about a kind, loving god? Where is he when some father is molesting his daughter or some jackass with a rifle goes on a shooting rampage at a crowded mall? Where was he during all the atrocities commited in his name? He certainley helped moses out but where was he when another group of people got enslaved (they even used his book to justify it) and taken from their homeland. In fact, nobody's heard from him since we nailed his son to a tree. Maybe we pissed him off and he hasn't been back since?

The idea that a being vast and powerful enough to have created an infinite universe actually caring about what some jumped up monkeys with opposable thumbs get up to one one little ball of rock and water in a universe that is so enourmous that your mind can't even comprehend it's scale is egocentric and laughable.

As you can tell I have a lot to say about christianity, though I've actually met some christians who managed to pick the good bits of the message out and live wby them. That's the one good thing I have to say about that religion... that whole thing about treating others as you would have them treat you. I really wish all people would try and live by that one simple rule. I think my biggest problem with it is the whole missionary thing and all the horrible acts that have been carried out through history. My view of the universe suits me quite well, and I have a complex code of conduct I try to adhere to. I don't go around trying to convedrt people and 'save their souls' (what and redeem them for valuable prizes?) I came upon my views after much study and I don't really appreciate it when someone trying to score browny points with a mythical figure and save me from a mythical place won't take I'm not interested for an answer and persists in arguing their point and generally getting on my nerves.

On to athiesm:

Something made all this, or at least three's some force that set everything in motion. We're just never gonna be able to comprehend it. I think it's something as simple as a will to form life that permeates the universe. I don't have nearly as much to say about that cause there's just isn't as much for me to object to.

That's just two points of view in a many sided issue. I'm sure I've pissed a bunch of people off but that's how I look at the world. I prolly wouldn't feel like slamming christianity so much if it hadn't been forced upon me so many times in the past. Fortunately I can think for myself and my parents left me to my own devices when it came to spirituality. I didn't grow up thinking any specific religion was the one true way and everyone else is wrong. There are good elements to most religions and I really wish everyone would just pick one that doesn't encourage killing people who don't agree with them, practice it, and leave everyone else to do their thing as long as thehy're not doing anything to someone against their will.

Well? Whats your meaning about religion? Myself are, so far an atheis, Im not sure what to belive...
Make me a believer!!! lol

Well for starters your not an Atheist. By definition an atheist is someone who believes that there is no supreme being. As you clearly stated yourself, you are not sure what you believe. Which would make you an agnostic, a person who neither acknowledges or protests the existance of a supreme being. Just to round things up the Xinaskin definiton of a religous is someone who has faith in a supreme being(s).

secondly For arguments sake, which this thread dosn't really deserve. Both atheist and religous can be considered fools. It is foolish to think that you know the answer to an unexplainable question. It is also foolish to think that 90% of the world is crazy. However over 90% of the world used to beleive that the Earth was flat and that it was at the center of the Solar System.

Continuing on with rant, no one can force you to believe something. Espicially religous matters. They are a leap of Faith and are made on a personal level. If you don't decide to make this choice yourself than you do not have the faith it requires to be defined as a religous person.

/StandOnSoapBox on

For future referance please avoid post on such a delicate matter, or at least treat them with the respect that they deserve. Whether you are religous or not, pesonnaly I am not, you should never attempt to disgrace the beliefs of others. Even as an atheist you will never see me talking down a Religon. It is common decency, just as you will never see me log on and start a thread about how all (insert Ethnice group of choice)are the laziest things to ever walk the face of the earth.

They're actually much juicier in the Asylum. People ranting, gnashing their teeth, pulling their hair, disgracing each other right and left.

I was kind of wondering... if christanity was true and lets say a d, d, beatened, and lived a long brutal life and god apears and says welcome to heaven and the guy is supose to say "All is forgiven" if god existed why isn't the world drowning? Why is n't justice done? Maybe althrough I don't believe in christanity is that he dosen't (Almost like a test not forgeting) want to force good into the world or he can't do anything unless in very important times, or believes that the greatest punishment is simply to ignore. But you have to understand people are IMO never born as devils. I also have another question:

If god created everybody why are there evil people? God created them so unless he can't controll their goodness then why should they go to h*ll? If Saddam or was created like that and destined to be like that by god why should they go to hell? Should a man lets say in the future who was abused and now did evil because of the evil done to him or all the things that influenced him? Should a man be forgiven because of the world he lives in? Does god expects people to believe in him? Espicialy later. Why should people go to hell just because they were unsure or the world they lived in made it seem less and less possible for god? Please answer EVERY SINGLE ONE of them. Should a man be punished because of something he believes in? Should he be forced to believe in something just to asure eternal life?

religion is definetely a huge joke imo

the bible says adam and eve were the first two ppl on earth. and they had three SONS, ok so umm how the heck did cain or seth have kids if there was no other woman on earth besides eve.

so there are two things that could be true

1. Cain and/or Seth had sex with eve (which is incest basically) and eve gave birth to her own grandkid. However the bible never mentions this happening and instead seems to hint towards a girl appearing out of nowhere and having a kid with cain. but as we all know, people just dont APPEAR out of nowhere.

so that leads me to believe that the bible is just full of ******** and/or was altered over the course of history (the bible says the person who alters it will burn in hell, and so they burn in hell but guess what? the bible is still altered from the "truth") and that gullible people have believed it for hundreds of years without question. which is pretty sad. theres other stuff in the bible that doesnt make sense but i dont feel like posting it atm. the cain/seth thing should be enough.

basically im willing to bet that corrupt church leaders/governments/etc have altered the bible and that todays bible is severly altered from the truth. thats why i dont go to church and i take and pick stuff from the bible that i want to believe.

Oh well, I am getting it settled now. I wouldnt have even known, since I'm never in this forum had I not seen her typing the post that im editing right now.

Biblical geneologies almost never mention daughters, especially by name. They just weren't important to list. Genesis not mentioning them would be consistant with the rest of the Old Testament. It does say in Genesis 5 that Adam had "other sons and daughters" which is about as good a mention as a female could hope for Smiley: wink

It also says that Cain met his wife in Nod just out of the blue one day.

No, it doesn't. It says that Cain left after God cursed him and, while in Nod, he lay with his wife (Genesis 4:16-17). It makes no mention of when he met her. It's just as likely (well, more likely) that he was already married to her when he knocked off Abel.

Ahh, so just to clarify, there's no mention of her before then, so by your logic she could have been around...

before Adamn and Eve right?

I mean, why not. It doesn't say anywhere that she WASN'T.

Because Genesis says that God created the first man and woman and they were Adam and Eve. The Bible later says that Cain left for Nod and there he lay with his wife. So logic would tell us that Cain's wife was born post Adam and Eve and Pre-Nod, eh? Again, Biblical geneologies don't mention females so there's nothing precluding A&E from having had unmentioned daughters in the fifteen or twenty years between Cain and Abel were born and when Cain kills his brother.

I'm really not interested in arguing the validity of the Bible as a whole with you. Maybe it'd be entertaining for a while as a theological exercise and a game of "Stump the Other Guy" but I have no vested interest in it and I know you're never going to say "Yeah, that's true" so it'd get old pretty fast. Is the Bible the factual Word of God? Don't know & don't care. Is there an explanation as to where Cain's wife came from that reconciles with the rest of the Old Testament? Yes, there is.
