My entire C drive is in Read-only and I can't undo any of it. It will allow me to uncheck Read-only and apply, then it will go through and adjust the setting but once I go back into the folder properties it's still listed as Read-only.
I'm the only user/administrator on this computer so I don't think it's an administration rights problem.
I downloaded a file last night and moved it around folders so I know I could write to folders last night but tonight when I went to move the files it would only move an empty folder which is when I found out I lost my write privileges. My system scans downloads as they come in and it came through clean but I ran a full system scan anyway and only got the normal tracking cookies I get regularly.
Went into account administration controls and everything's checked as it should be.
I also noticed a few of my file folders are grayed out and it won't let me access them. Application Data, Desktop, Documents, Favorites, Start menu, Templates and a few others are the ones grayed out and they have the shortcut symbol on them.
I've checked everything I could think of but I'm at a loss. I installed a game called The Witcher a few days ago and updated Rawr around the same time, the file I downloaded last night was an armor mod for Oblivion. Other than that nothing has been uploaded, downloaded or installed in about three weeks. Any ideas?

Only thing I can think of is that you managed to change the access permissions for you entire C drive.

That's what I meant by checking the administration controls, I have access to everything.
The folders being Read Only is not your issue. That is a common thing in Windows, and it's supposed to be like that. It confused me a couple years ago as well, and I don't know why they do it, but that's the way it is.

Your problem exists somewhere else. Ignore the Read Only settings on your Folders, that's something Windows does.

Try going to the command prompt (Run dialog box > type cmd) as admin and typing in this:
attrib -r "C:\"
If it works correctly it should remove the read-only status for all files on the C drive. You'll have to be careful from then on because the protected system files will be editable as well.

Yea, I saw that but it was acting as if everything actually was Read-only. I couldn't adjust files or anything, I could create folders but that's it.
I got a strange idea that it may be something with Nortons so I took the network offline and plugged the second PC into my cellphone, made sure my security was up to date and made a copy. When I booted up the main computer (the one with the problem) Nortons started spitting back "blocked attempt" popups left and right. I deleted Nortons and reinstalled it using the copy I made, system came back clean but I had access to everything again. Did a hard reset on the modem and router and everything seems to be working fine now.
Only thing I can figure is that something was hitting my computer, managed to block the "blocked attempt" popups and Nortons or the router locked down my system as a security measure. Seems odd to me but both systems are working fine and everything is showing as clean.

With a stick? Maybe. Otherwise, probably not. Throw Norton away, it's completely useless.
