I recently started looking for Turn based JRPG styled PC games, and found very few.

Septerra Core was one of the only games that fit the description. I have the CD for Septerra Core this is the actual retail CD, not a downloaded ISO. I've owned this game since I was in High School. Unfortunately, I cannot get this game to install on my new computer. I'm running Windows XP Professional, SP2.

When I insert the CD and run the Launcher, the window pops up with the options to Install or Exit. When I click Install, the hour glass appears and nothing happens.

Wowexec (the part of windows that handles 16 bit applications) is a running process, but it sits there doing nothing, sitting at 0 CPU usage until I force it to exit.

The weird thing is I have it installed on my old computer, which has Windows XP Home SP2 running on it.

I cannot figure out why my new computer won't let it install. I've tried exiting all of my antivirus, antispyware, and firewall programs before trying to install, but it still fails to start the Install.

The only difference appears to be between Home and Professional. This is why I keep an old Win95 machine around. Sorry that I have nothing really helpful to add. I've had similar difficulties in the past with some of my older games.

Well, there are some hardware differences between the two computers. Maybe a driver is interfering or something.

I just plugged my old computer back in... I'll probably set it up next to this one so I can play the older games.

Unfortunately Valkyrie Studios is just about dead and their site and support offers little in terms of help. The only help it shows on XP issues is playing errors. I can't even get far enough to play it on this computer.

Edit:
Seems to be a hardware related issue, maybe video card? My old PC with XP on it works just fine. My new PC, and my brother's new PC can't install the game, both have XP, and both have Geforce 8800 GT video cards.

I don't see why the hardware wouldn't let the game even launch the installer though.

You know... that worked.

I've never used Safe Mode to do anything other than fix virus/spyware/malware issues.

Yeah, I originally typed a 9 paragraph explanation of why it was happening and why .Net sucks so much, but then I remembered you just wanted to play the game.

I'm curious as to why it was happening. But I don't expect you to rewrite the 9 paragraph explanation.
