System Info.

-Comcast Cable
-Linksys 4port router
-FFXI for PS2

I've just switched from Dial-up to cable internet and I'm having problems with FFXI for PS2. The biggest problem is using the search function. When I'm checking the auction house, looking for players, searching an area, or checking my link list, the search will fail. This doesn't happen everytime, but enough to really get on your nerves. I have also been timed out from the server everyday since I switched to cable. After being kicked I have to reset my router before I am able to log back on. Dial-up is still working fine though. After speaking with others, it seems that no one else is having this same problem. So with that said, I'm thinking it might be my router, although I'm not having problems with my PCs. I read this, "Make sure the following ports are open on your router/firewall:
-TCP 25, 80, 110, 443 or 50000 - 65535
-UDP 50000 - 65535" and I am unsure how to check and or change this. I use the Linksys router and am at the web client right now to change my settings, but I don't know where to change those specific settings. So if anyone uses the same router or knows how to do this, any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

edit.
These are the settings I have right now.
Application_Ext.Port_TCP__UDP
FTP________21_____x
Telnet______23_____x
SMTP_______25_____x
DNS________53__________x
TFTP________69__________x
finger_______79_____x
HTTP________80_____x
POP3_______110____x
NNTP_______119____x
SNMP_______161_________x

That's in the uPnP Forwarding section. None are enabled so should I do that?

Forwarding the correct ports is fairly simple to do.

I have a Linksys router also, and have the correct ports forwarded, so I hope I can help you. Under "Application & Gaming" (after you log in to your router settings), do something like this:

FFXI 25 25 TCP 192.168.1.### checked
FFXI2 80 80 TCP 192.168.1.### checked
FFXI3 110 110 TCP 192.168.1.### checked
FFXI4 443 443 TCP 192.168.1.### checked
FFXI5 50000 65535 BOTH 192.168.1.### checked

Where the "###" is whatever octet the router has assigned to you.

The problem may also be the network adapter itself on your PS2. If you keep having problems, I'd suggest buying a new one.

Thanks for the input, I'll check it out in the morning. The octets are blank so how to I know what number the router has assigned those? Or should I just leave those alone?

Goto Run and type "cmd" (without the quotes of course). When the prompt comes up, type "ipconfig" and use the IP address you see there. Only do this when you are connected to the router, as it displays the IP address the router has assigned to you, NOT your true IP. (unless, of course, there is no router connected)

What about what the router has assigned the PS2? As all my pcs and my ps2 use separate ports.

I'm not familiar with the PS2. Is there a way to see the current IP address on it? Otherwise you'll just have to guess, as usually the router assigns it counting up. (ex. 192.168.1.100, 192.168.1.101, etc.)

Yeah I used the process of elimination and opened the ports and it didn't help. I really have no idea what to try next.
