I'm in vidja game limbo.

On the one hand, I have plenty to play. On the other, I don't feel like playing any of it. But I feel like playing a game.

Oh, wow. In the movie the second teacher who actually likes the students is a guy, there's no rape implied. It just looks like they beat the hell out of him before killing him.

I want one of these as a desk chair. I can't imagine a more badass desk chair.

Also, I downloaded Borderlands since I wanted something new to play but I suck at FPS, I think I'll go buy it anyway, it's proven to be pretty good fun so far even if my aim is dreadful.

Looks comfortable enough to me, the black parts are cushioned I think. The price though...

Quote:
The Capo Harkonnen Capo Chairs, with the triple skulls, in aluminum or black fiberglass, featured in the furniture section of the website, are currently not available. There are no existing molds to produce them. If there will be a serious purchase requests to justify the major expenses involved in making new molds, the prices of these chairs will need to be recalculated at today's fabrication costs. It is Giger's hope that he will be able to keep their cost the same as they were before, $30,000. for the fibeglass, and $50,000. for the aluminum chair.

Then again there's only ever been a handful made, it was designed for a 1971 adaptation of Dune that never happened and it's a @#%^ing biomechanical skeleton throne.

50,000 bucks for a chair. It looks badass, but that's insane.

Hand made out of aluminum and made to order plus it's the design of a famous artist, it's not too surprising, especially when you consider designs like this chair which is basically an aluminum box and a hammer is over €4000 and this chest of drawers made with discarded drawers is €30,000. Or how about this awesome tree trunk bench at €11,200 tree trunk not included.

So they just sell you two dinky little stands and the backs of chairs and you need to go find your own freaking tree?

I'm done with humans.

...

In other news, I spent the day playing InFamous, since I never beat it and got it for free way back when. It's kind of interesting playing a title that was launched so early on the PS3 and comparing it to more recent titles. It's easy to forget just how much better devs (and, of course, the engines) get at using the systems as time goes on.

Not even the stands, just the 3 chair backs (though they're cast in bronze).

An original Eames chair & ottoman is far from cheap as well and those have been produced on quite a large scale rather than being meant as a conceptional design. They're often closer to art than they are to functional pieces of furniture and should be seen as such.

Yeah, well, the art industry is pretty much outside my scope of reference as well. Smiley: lol

But when we're talking something like paintings, you can sort of understand the high pricing, since anyone you'd buy for a high price is pretty guaranteed to be an actual investment. I see it almost as a bond you can hang in your house.

I mean, I do appreciate the ART stuff, but I can't comprehend actually spending that much money on something with no practical value.

So when we start talking about commercial art, which has a high chance to depreciate in value, it's just confusing.

Many of these kinds of pieces are in various museums though, that €30k chest of drawers for example is in the MoMa in New York. The tree trunk may depreciate in value (although it'll always be a couple hundred bucks in scrap metal Smiley: lol) but plenty of these pieces by big designers don't really lose value since they're so famous.

And you know, a 5 figure cost isn't so bad if you compare it to say Jeff Koons Balloon Dog (orange) which sold for a whopping $58.3 million.

Rich people be crazy.

Also, I'm hoping the Tomb Raider game is good. I got it with PS+, so no harm if it isn't, but still. I'd like to enjoy it.

I particularly like when it's alma layered with gbaji.

Also, the twitch systems in Tomb Raider are pissing me off. I know I'm still having my morning coffee, but repeating the same scene 4 times because you missed the live action trigger isn't fun. Also, I died to environmental damage and it processed the checkpoint so I just lost about a hundred salvage. Not really a big deal, but annoying when it would have been enough to get me an upgrade.

I've got Gbaji on ignore as well, originally it was just because his posts are so ******* long but it feels like he's gotten more and more crazy over the past year or so.

Also I'm playing Borderlands 2, it's a lot of fun. I also die a lot, like a LOT. I'm really bad at shooters.

Yeah, I'm terrible at shooters. I really am. I don't have the dexterity or twitch movement for them. I enjoyed the Mass Effect multiplayer a lot, but I largely played ability-based classes, or snipers/shotgunners.

Plus, it wasn't competitive, which was a HUGE plus for me.

I have borderlands 2 on both my PC (with DLC) and my PS3 (without), but I haven't really played much. My PC doesn't like it...

Your PC doesn't seem to like a lot of things? Is it that old?

Edit: I'm playing the sniper (Zero) character at the moment and while I love the sniping it's a damn fragile character. Feels fragile anyway.

Also, I think my mouse being set to move super fast with minimal movements and is super heavy probably don't help my accuracy.

Nah, it's just dying.

Things it likes and doesn't like are across the board with ages. Some new games work fine, some old ones are stuttering messes.

Oblivion, for instance, runs worse than Skyrim.

Really, I do need a new computer. There's a solid chance I just cave and buy one at some point. But I'm trying to pretend I make responsible decisions.

I wouldn't want to budget more than $800 for the complete rig (including monitor and OS, which I can get through work if I settle for Windows 8*).

*I can get Windows 8 for dirt cheap... or Windows 7 upgrade keys. Which I assume I can't use with Windows 8. I really don't want Windows 8, but it would save me quite a bit.

Build it yourself and source W7 from somewhere else and $800 should get you a pretty decent machine. It's more or less my budget although I'm not getting a new screen or new HDD's since what I have suffices.

Well, my current parts list is $1215.72 but that's roughly equal to an $800 PC in the US...

There are plenty of current build lists around at the $600 price point, so then it's really about stretching that last $200 between the OS and the monitor. Getting Windows 7 for cheap is really necessary for that, because I loathe Windows 8.
