Hey guys,
My shaman is currently level 79 and sitting on honor cap (4k).
What should I buy when I ding 80 and what should I do to get gear aferwards?
I am probably going to ding tonight or tomorrow night if I am allowed to level. Otherwise I will do it by next week.

I wouldn't buy much. We're only about a month away from new levels, and most of the gear at 81 will blow away what you can currently get.

As for the OP I would agree with Theo, but if you really want to look at what peices of tier gear you will be getting soon at 80 and go with the PvP gear in slots that won't have any. The combination will help out with more damage while your short on gear.
On the one hand, it's only a month from the expansion where those honor points will be relatively more valuable for pieces that you'll probably keep longer.
On the other hand, honor isn't all that hard to grind at the moment. So buying a few pieces and continuing BGs until Cata isn't so rough.
Personally, I'm not spending any points until 85 but I can see how some folks are eager to get some stuff especially right when they ding. Just remember that sooner than the expansion there is expected to be some pre-release events that may take some of your available game time.
In other news, I'm so very very excited about shaman pvp in Cata =) Prepare to see my goblin melting faces.... or, ummm, kneecaps.....

Well, until Cata arrives I don't have much to do. And I am playing this shaman with the girlfriend so I need to spend the points on something...
I have bought 2 level 70 pieces today due to hitting the honor cap, twice.
I should be playing one of my rogues to get back into playing rogue, but I don't have any active people on the servers that the rogues are on to play together with for a while. Plus, I will most definitely be playing rogue as main if the 3v3 team goes ahead so don't want to get burnt out.
I still need to pick 2 total characters to play with at 85. 1 will most likely be a rogue if said arena team materializes. But I am indecisive for the other class as I am having some good fun with the shaman.

I've been struggling with the same thing. I have a hunter at 69 and shaman at 12, and I like both classes tremendously. I think hunter may end up being "the" class for me, but I don't yet know.
I think I'm going to pick shaman as my pvp character, but I'm not sure yet. I have a rogue and a shaman that are close to 80.
I could always go druid, but I'm going to pve with him, and don't want to mess around changing specs/gear all the time, since I'm already feral/resto.

Rogue is going to be a sickeningly good PvP class in Cataclysm, especially if this doesn't get changed:
Mastery: Executioner now also increases the effectiveness of Slice and Dice and Recuperate.
More haste from SnD and more health (and possibly energy) recovered by Recuperate? ******* WIN.
I honestly don't think that'll last more than a month on live.
