Should You Save Honor/Marks for TBC?Follow

So My wife (60 priest) and I (60 Mage) have are delighted over the new PvP system. It give the "casaul hardcore" players like ourselves a chance at the high ranking PvP gear. We've been farming the BGs for Marks and Honor Points looking forward to buying the blues and epics from the Hall of Legends.

However, I began thinking and it crossed my mind how irrelevant this gear is going to become in about 1 month when TBC comes out. Some of the Lv. 60-62 quests in the Outlands gives greens that are near HWL status.

So my question to all you experts out there is this: All the Marks and Honor Points we are getting, would it be wiser to save the up for the new TBC PvP gear at level 70. From what I've read your honor points don't really go away if they aren't spent, so I don't see why not. If so, this would give us a great jump on having some uber lvl 70 PvP gear in TBC.

Opinions plz. Thank you.

Well, you can easily get the whole FM/GM and WL/HWL gear in 2-3 weeks of hardcore playing. To me, I already have 100 of one mark, so I may as well spend them now then start saving up. it just depends how much you play.

On the Oboards, there was a thread discussing this. The FM/(whatever the Horde call it) gear remained on multiple beta testers until about level 68 as most of the "upgrades" were mediocre at best.

If you truly are "Casual Hardcore", then go for it. Your gear will last just that much longer while you're leveling and allow you to focus on upgrades for other slots.

I agree with Poldoran.

The new PvP gear seems very easy and quick to get, at least compared to what it was before.

On the other hand, the levelling between 60-70 will take quite a while. So, i think it's well worth it to PvP a lot between now and TBC to get some great item weapons, which will then help you loads in TBC.

Even if you don't PvP much, you'll probably hit the Honour Cap before you reach lvl 70.

So, I would advise you to have fun and spend your money now. You never know what will have happened by the time you're level 70. There might be PvE weapons which are ten times better than the PvP ones and easily attainable, Blizz might increase the cost of those lvl 70 weapons, you just never know...

Blizzard pretty much has the level 70 PvP rewards set up already. In the current state, there will be a 5 piece level 70 blue set and a 3 piece epic set for each class purchased with normal honor/marks. There will also be a slew of blue quality weapons, some blue/epic trinkets/gems/necks, etc... that can be purchased with honor/marks. The epic quality weapons, and the 5 piece arena set for every class, are all purchased using arena tokens (the equivalent of "honor" but awarded through the ranked arena system).

What I would personally recomend:

- If you play a melee class or a hunter... definitely without a doubt grind for your primary weapons. This will make the 60+ grind go faster at the beginning. There's a huge difference in swinging dal'rend's main hand and a GM/HWL 1h sword.

- Upgrade pieces of your kit that are from the level 60 blue instances. If you're already a casual raider, and you have gear from MC/ZG, it might not be worth it to make the honor grind (might be just better to save for level 70 stuff). However, if you're rocking tier 0 gear, the r12/13 gear is likely a BIG upgrade and will help you grind faster in BC.

- Get pimp looking gear. Hell, I know people that are doing the grind just to get stuff like the HWL staff b/c it looks so cool. After I make my grind for weapons, I'm debating picking up the whole HWL set. Granted, it will be soon outdate. However, honor is not that hard to farm, and it's fun for me. I already have superior gear for raiding (I really don't need 6k unbuffed health as a rogue... and it gimps my DPS output). However, I just love the way the PvP set looks...

With these things in mind, realize that you can only save honor tokens to a certain point. At this time, it's capped at 2x the cost of the highest priced items which are the HWL/GM 2h weapons at about 44k honor IIRC. It definitely might not be a bad idea to atleast have some saved for when BC hits (I know I'll be saving a good chunk). However, you'll also have the fun of PvP at level 70, and will gain some honor along the way.

I plan to get the GM shield and longsword, hopefully before the x-pac hits. If I get those, I'll probly just get the 30 of each token for the epic mount then farm gold to get the riding skill.
