How much gold should a 47 lev have?Follow

I realize its a very arbitrary question but i wonder if there is some rule of thumb for a toon having a certain amount of gold per level?. I have my horse, blue and green plate and weapons, all skills and 128 gold at 47 warrior.
Im curious because 1 of my guild members who is 45 warrior only has 2 gold and below lev equipment and she was shocked at what i have. Frankly I thought i was behind since that 800 gold bill is waiting at 60 and i now make maybe 10 gold after a session of grinding, mining and gathering.
Never seen this discussed so i realy would like your input. Thanks.

You are doing very well. I don't know how people don't make money in this game and are scrounging up money to repair.

Actually, I do know how.

It's completely and utterly subjective.

Some people grasp the basics of economics better than others. I know some really talented players who can't bang 2g together, and I know others who have never gotten a character above 40 with hundreds of (honestly earned) gold. Really, you can't go wrong playing the AH and taking money from those who haven't grasped the basics of economics.

But as far as a certain amount by certain levels? Nah, not really.

Your doing fine! I've been one of the luckier ones who has had 5 blue b.o.e drops, and 2 of those were twink drops! I've had one purple drop (Glowing Brightwood Staff) and that sold for about 200g (I could have gone for more but I didn't care).

^ Off topic, sorry...yes your doing better than the norm but keep saving you've got a lot to save up for :).

I"m guessing that it all depends on the type of player that you are. If you work hard at the instances and get your items from that then I would imagine that you should have a fair amount of gold, since you don't need to buy equip as often in the AH, and can sell some of the drops.

For myself (lvl48) I don't grind too many instances simply b/c of either I'm PvPing or I can't commit the time to fully complete one without having to leave the group halfway through, therefore I usually buy my equipment on the A/H, which is lame but oh well. RIght now I only have 11g on my toon, but I am also working on the armorsmith quests, so I'm focusing on getting mithril bars. On average I usually have about 30 gold at any given time from lvl 40-48. If I ever need gold I solo grind a lower instance or two and then I'm set.

I would say that for the average player, not a whole lot considering they most likely bought their mount just 7 dings ago.

But, it depends on whether you chose two gathering professions or not, it depends on whether you farm low level instances or not, and it depends on whether you play the auction house or not. It also depends on how lucky you are with drops.

Maybe some people would rather have fun playing the game than trying to make money?

I dunno.

Depends on the person really. I hate making money and therefor I dont have a whole lot. Of course I never complain about it either.

MY rule of thumb is that post-30, a toon should have about 10G/level.

You're doin great. I tend to go up and down, depending on my goals. I'm low now because I just bought my epic riding skill. The main thing is that it doesn't bother me. I know how to make money, and it will go back up as fast as I choose to work it.

My rogue bought full Stormshord (before gloves were out), Devilsaur Gloves, SC bracers two Assassination Blades (With +5 damage/+15agi) plus many other things in the low 50's with his own money. I found it fun to buy items (namely Scarlet Krises) and resell them at 500% the original price.

This varies so much on your type of game play.. As a level 36 Hunter, I have just over 600gold.. mainly from Skinning/selling... Herbing/selling... and playing the Auction House.. This was done mainly solo, with very few instances done... couple blue equipment, mainly from quests. No rush to get to any level, and by not buying anything in the AH except to re-sell. I've made a few alts for different collections... Shaman - Skinning/Mining, Rogue - Skinning/Herbs.. Warlock - Skinning/Herbs... It's enjoyable for me to run around - get a little experience here and there, and collect stuff...

So, in answer to your question... No Rule of Thumb. ;)

My priest is level 47 and has about 200 gold. I think she's doing a fair job at saving and not wasting money. Sure she could have more.

I have an alt that disenchants any greenies that don't sell the first round on AH.

I pick up and vendor EVERY GREY ITEM I can get my hands on.

I have two gathering profressions.. sell herbs and skins for 100% profit. (beyond training the skill up to 300 there is no cost here whatsoever)

I just can't believe some people who get to 40 and have like 5 gold and are begging off other people in order to buy their mount. I was grouping with a couple of these in SM and noticed they didn't pick up any gray items... no wonder. And they vendor their greenies! I was floored.

Just the other day I picked up a gray axe that was 1 gold 40 silver at the vendor. Bonus!

Im a level 45 Paladin (didn't have to pay for my mount) and right at the moment I have 20g. I've never had more than about 60g on me, but if im rich i like to buy things. I never grind for money, but i do have skinning and mining to maximise my cash from them. I also spent about 10g kitting out some level 14s that im leveling up with a friend (his main is on a different server). Unfortunately, i have a bit of a dilemma at the moment, I'm currently using a Khoo's Pointand today I got a darkmoon faire prize bag which had a Stoneravenin it, im now wondering whether to sell for a lot and buy a small weapon upgrdae, or just use the weapon itself 9which is a huge upgrade.

I always seem to have a lot of money, and I'm not exactly sure why. I've bought most of my gear with enchantments (Gut Ripper w/Fiery, Julie's Dagger w/Crusader), and I've been over 300g since level 45 (56 now). I'm herb/alch 300/300, and I make a ton of money making pots/transmutes and opening lockboxes for others. I never ask for any amount of tip for picking locks, just whatever they offer I take, even if it's nothing. I spend quite a bit of time just wandering IF searching the AH and trade channel while making potions for people for money.

This coupled with my good buddy who's a 59 pally mining/weaponsmithing who never seems to get over 10g. I just don't understand how people DON'T make a ton of money. I'm guessing that our server (Anub'Arak) just has a messed up economy where everything I have sells for a boatload.

Imo - Earning currency and building a 'business' so to speak in mmorpg's is half the fun! I have always had fun buying/selling for profit, and in World of Warcraft I have earned most of my gold D/E low priced greens/blues and selling the materials I get.

As far as the question of the OP; its really open as to how much gold a character of any level could or should have. Some players as others have already stated, have a good grasp of economics, while others do not.

I know how to make money, but I always seem to find ways to spend it. I don't spend a lot of time in instances or raids, so as much as I hate to say it, I bought a lot of my BoE gear. My Beaststalker's gloves, belt & bracers, Abyssal Mail Legguards of Striking, Helm of Narv, Straholme Militia Shoulderguard (now replaced) and my Scarlet Kris all come to about 1000G. Add to that money invested on experimenting with different professions (I have leveled mining, herbalism & alchemy to 300, and enchanting to 295 now), and money spent over the last months getting turn-ins for my Amulet of the Darkmoon (I finally turned in enough last night to get it), and bankrolling countless alts (which I usually get to about lvl 25 before tiring of and deleting) and I seem to be able to spend my money as fast as I earn it.

It's easy to make money in WoW- it's not always easy to keep it. Smiley: rolleyes

As a group we really do seem to run the spectrum from poor to rich as per your replies. Our approaches and attitudes to getting gold are so varied that I dont think we can really have a rule of thumb. I guess im kind of in the middle class money wise, LOL.Your responses made for some fun reading and I thank you.

My first char: ~10g at 47
My second char: ~40g at 47
My third char: ~100g at 47

You are doing very good, but you don't have to have 800g by 60. It will make it easier though. I was only able to get 800g before 60 on only 1 of my 60's. You will have plenty of time at 60 to get the money for your mount. Don't rush it, enjoy the game =)

I have a level 35 and I have about 130 gold. However I've mainly just been sticking to the quests. I haven't gone out of my way to play the auction house or farm herbs or anything.

I wouldn't even worry about it personally. As long as you have enough to maintain your equipment and get what you need to have fun then that's all that matters. :)

I have around 30g at the moment and I'm lvl 37. I think I am doing really good because I sort of suck with the saving of money (in real life and in WoW).

A good chunk of that was made by my skinning and herbs and my beloved Auctioneer mod (because I really sucked at pricing things) helping me price things.

Everybody plays and earns their WoW gold differently.

I have a 55 hunter skinner/leather & have 90 gold. I don't have a mount, & don't do instances, but think I'm going to have to give them a try. I have gotten 2 blues & AH'd them. I've made some equip & bought some. I'd like to be one of those who could easily loan a friend 100 gold but I suck at Economics (passed w/ a C), but I do enjoy the game & that's the important part
