Shameless bump... But I would be interested in this as well. I haven't seen anything out there for the Mac WoW crowd.

I guess I'm a bit ignorant of the Mac crowd, but what prevents you from using Add Ons? They modify WoW and shouldn't have anything to do with your OS.

Add-ons are platform independent. They use WoW's internal language to perform their tasks. Becuase of that, they work equally well on Windows PCs and Macs.

It may have nothing to do with the OS, but Macs cannot open the file types that the add-ons are generally written in... Executable (.exe) files.

So they have to have "special" Mac readable versions for Mac users to install them.

A lot of UI COMPILATIONS (a set of different addons) will use a .exe file to install them into the correct directory.

However, most individual addons you get from cursegaming or worldofwar.net come in their own folder, in which you just place the folder into the
'worldofwarcraft/interface/addons' directory.

So yea, mike is right here.

Most if not all AddOns are available in ZIP or RAR format. You simply extract the files to the correct directory in the WoW installation directory.

Some authors provide an EXE for their addons for people not comfortable with zip files and the extracting process. This is not required. Look for the ZIP/RAR file instead.

Also, there's a difference between a UI AddOn (files extracted to your Interface/addons directory) and 3rd Party programs that interact with WoW (which usually means not allowed by Blizzard). Are you sure you are referring to UI Addons?

I know that some UI mods do come in a .exe like was said, not a lot but a few. This mostly applies to the large UIs like Cosmos (iirc, been forever since I used that and I don't plan on going back to it) and such, where there are a metric ton of addons packed together. Most individual addons found on sites are in .zip or .rar format, normally zip because it is more compatible (I STILL talk to people who don't have winrar or know what a .rar is)

NO ADDON should have an extention of .exe

addons are written in XML IIRC and thus as stated above are NOT dependent on the platform or OS you are running.

most addons come in the form of zip, and there is an application for OSx that allows you to unzip those files and place them in the correct location in your /Users/user/Applications/Word of Warcraft directory.

DO NOT EVEN MESS WITH ADDONS THAT ARE .EXE. most of them are keyloggers or other such nasties.

bgredsox, just do a search for "zip mac". There are all kinds of utilities out there for a mac to handle the zip archive format.
