Newb-Hunter Pet QuestionFollow

Hey folks...

So I've got a level 32 hunter.... when I first rolled the hunter (night elf) I tamed one of those typical "Nightsaber" cats that are ike the first common pet that roam the area when you first get your "tame beast" ability..

At about level 15 or so, I stabled that pet, "Homeslice", and got myself a wolf from Darkshire, which has leveled with me ever since.

Now I am thinking of getting another cat-type pet, specifically a mountain lion from Arathi Highlands area.

My question is... should I abandon Homeslice and just tame a new pet, or try and level him up. The only reason I'm even asking is because I had spent some of the beef-up-your-pet-a-mo points on him, gave him some stamina, resistances, etc. So I guess all that would go to waste and I'd start with a new pet. I don't want to spend the, what is it, 50g? for another stable spot, not yet anyways.

If abandoning the pet-training points you spent when switching pets is not a big deal, I might even abandon "Shaggy" (my wolf) and get myself a tank pet like a boar or a bear or something, so I have access to the damage or tank pet depending on situation.

How does one go about leveling a much-lowerl-level-than-you pet once it has been stabled for many levels? is it worth it or just abandon and get a new one?

Also, what happens when you abandon a pet?

Thanks.

Unless you're attached to the skin of the cat you have, it'll be easier to tame one closer to your level. Also, while leveling pre-60, there's not much mileage in burning training points on resistances - you'll want to stick with the armor and stamina.

Edit:
Abandoning a pet makes it just disappear, gone forever.

Any training points that you have accumulated have only been for that specific pet, so you don't have to worry about all that. When you tame another one then you just start all over while you level it. So it's pretty much a never ending process.

As for the stable slots... I don't remember ever having to pay for them, so I really don't know what to say there unless something has changed. (I doubt it has though.)

As for levelling Homeslice back up, its really more trouble then it is worth unless you really really like that skin, which isn't really available in a high enough level that you won't have to take a few hours to level it back up. If you really do want to level the pet, it is best to just level on greens as you normally would, but make sure as you have your pet fight with you that you keep hate, or it will die, quite a few times.

Either way, good luck on that.

First stable slot is like 5s or 10s, and the next is 5g.

If you were really motivated and really loved your kitty, it would be worth it to level it.

I had a hard time when i was in the same perdicament with my first raptor, her name was wendy, a red raptor from senjin island.

I used her the whole way up to level 43 until king bangladesh caught my eye. then i leveled him and decided on the purple winterspring kitty, at somepoint i wanted the white winterspring bird as well and had to get rid of wendy. It was a sad day to say goodbye, but now that i look back, she's happy.

I walked the whole way back to senjin island and released her with her friends. :)

A little sentimental, but no i do not hug my pets. :)

Thanks for the advice, all....

Since I am not terrible attached to Homeslice.. (no disrespect.. he's still my homie and stuff).. I think I'll turn him loose and re-tame a cat my level rather that grind on green to level him up.

I'm not *too* into the skin of the pet, any pet.. more into stats...(though I do think those flying snakes looking thigs are cool) I'm just leaning towards having one pet that damage, one that's tank-ish.

s'matter of fact.. maybe I'll get one of those invis-o-mo panther from STV... obviosly that pet should already have the "Prowl" ability I would guess....since I am a NE, I can shadowmeld, and if pet could prowl, great setup for an ambush. :-) (even though I'm not a big PvPer)

appreciate the advice everyone...

I really liked the Ghost Wolf Alphas from Ashenvale at 28ish. They were nice and fast and had a pretty slick look. I kept him until 43 when I grabbed a King B, but alas, three weeks later they "normalized" the pets and I haven't played him since.

http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/ is a pretty neat place to take a gander at the different pets.

In the end it all comes down to how you want to play. I've known hunters who min/max, who are only interested in the hard numbers and still other hunters who just like the look of a crab or still have a pet from level 10 that they love and adore.

From my perspective, the skilled players make the difference and the pets, well, not so much.

I will go on a bender every 10 levels or so and go out and tame alot of pets at my level range just to make sure I have all the latest skills. Bite, Growl, Claw, and the such. Then after that I will go find a pet I like and re-name him my standard pet name, train him up, and get him to be a good loyal pet and bite Alliance folks running around. Smiley: drunk
