I know alot of you probably already know the gist of this, but I thought it'd be good to post as a reminder if nothing else.

Subject: 30/11 UI mods and The Burning Crusade

Hi there, this notification is meant to inform you of some significant changes regarding the way we're handling UI addons. Over the last few years, we've seen a number of awesome, gameplay-enhancing UI mods along with a fair number of UI mods that run counter to our philosophies regarding what addons should and shouldn't be able to do.

Essentially, we don't want UI mods to make combat-sensitive decisions for players and as such, we've made some changes that block functionality that we feel is counter to the spirit of these philosophies. As such, addons and macros can't make decisions on who to target or what spells to cast.

That being said, our programmers have implemented a host of new functionality in order to allow many popular and benign UI mods to continue to function (once those mods are updated to take advantage of the new functionality), and will be providing some follow-up information on these forums as to how to take advantage of the new functionality.

Just to clarify, addons and macros will still be able to cast spells (with user interaction of course), they just won't be able to use logic to intelligently pick spells or targets.

No more cheap one-button-mashing automatically-picks-rank-and-target healing mods. I wonder how many healers will have to L2P when this is implimented.

I personally will miss having Decursive.

Is it because I must resort to "cheap one-button-mashing automatically-picks-rank-and-target" decursing because I cannot "L2P" or is it because being able to assign priority decurse targets when you're dealing with a group of 39 other people makes my life a hell of alot easier.

You decide.

Oh I have Decursive too, and will miss it. Don't get me wrong: I'm not spiteful against the people who DO know how to heal and use the mods to reinforce that. I am spiteful against the ones who can only heal because of the mods, and know little to nothing of anticipation, timing, prioritizing, ranking spells, mana management, healing agro, etc.

They should be a supplement to your skills, not a crutch... and some of the healing mods I've seen are close to being considered metaphorical wheelchairs.

I thought someone had said that decursive will still work for SELECTING the target, you just have to hit another button to actually cast the spell. Now, I don't play a healer so I don't have a very good idea of how decursive works, but from what I can tell it is basically a "one button mashing" thing which automatically selects a target AND cast a spell. I don't think blizzard has a problem with add-ons selecting targets, just casting AND selecting seems to be the problem. You can already set a macro to select a target and cast a spell of some kind, it's just that having an add-on do everything is borderline botting even if you have to push a button. I could be totally wrong, I really don't know. I do know that this will make it a little harder, but it should still be managable. Get a decurser to make macros or say like "ok a decurse b, c and d e decurse f, g, h, ect..." fairly easy, and if everyone sticks to it I doubt it'll make it as hard as you're making it to be in your post with the "being able to assign priority decurse targets when you're dealing with a group of 39 other people makes my life a hell of alot easier"

Edit:

Like I said I don't play a healer (well in WoW but I have in the past), but even I know how some of these addons can be used as a metaphorical wheelchair. I don't know if i'd say decursive is one, but that mod that picks HEALS FOR YOU and one that cancels your cast so you don't overheal to save mana just takes all the challenge out of healing really.
