A "Good Samaritan" StoryFollow

I'm not sure why I'm posting this- it has no real point except that I feel like sharing it, perhaps from a sense of self-satisfaction, or perhaps because I like saying "Hey, look at me! I like doing nice things!"

Anyway, last night I was farming that last bit of reputation in Silithus, when I saw a Gnome mage summon a Templar nearby. Something went rather badly for the Gnome, and I could see that he was losing health faster than the mob. My pet just finished off the Geolord I had pulled, so I ran over to the Gnome and bandaged him while I sicced my pet on the mob. Unfortunately, the bandaging was interrupted (I assume by an AoE the Templar did), and the Gnome died. The Templar was at a quarter of its health, and I fired away at it. It died without too much effort, thanks to the Gnome's earlier effort, and I ran up and looted it. I got an Abyssal Crest and four cores of elements.

This was great- I already had two crests, and one more meant that I could turn them in for 50 rep! However, after thinking about it, I ran back to the mage, who had resurrected, and opened a trade window. I passed on the crest and cores to the mage, who did a /bow and about three /thanks. I just whispered him, "You did most of the work- I didn't want to see you do all that for naught".

Ironically, he would later save me when I'd unwittingly managed to aggro five Twilight Cultists, although I think that might have been either a glitch or a deliberate act by someone else, as the four adds had been nowhere in sight when I pulled the original cultist, nor were they around for the first several seconds of the battle. They seemed to sprint towards me from the other side of the camp.

Anyway, being a nice guy sometimes pays off. Smiley: boozing

I always try to do those kind of things when the opportunity presents itself.

A couple nights back an undead mage was aoe-grinding near one of the cauldrons in WPL. I rode up b/c I needed that cauldron lord. I watched for a few seconds and a few unlucky resists later he was in the red with mobs starting to spiral out of his control. I went up and spaced a frost nova to get his mobs and not him, but did accidentally blizzard him for a moment (I cancelled it as soon as I saw him in the area). I finished them off while he bandaged and then wanded.

He was quite thankful through emotes and later on, I'm pretty sure he stopped what would have been a ganking by 2 warriors who rode in on me fighting the cauldron lord.

Good samaritans rule.

That was nice of you, I know 9 out of 10 people would never do that.

Im glad to say that if it was me, I would hand over the items too. But thats because i personally dont care if i have to stand around for 2 more hours to get the items i need. So long as people dont bother me.

The best part is this guy helped you out later on, so i guess your kindness didnt go unrewarded. :)

I try to keep this in mind when I help people that don't ever come back to say thanks.

I play in an rp-pvp server but I don't like griefing others. I don't attack lower levels ever. I don't attack Horde of same level unless they attack me or my friends, if I want to pvp, I prefer battlegrounds or we arrange some world pvp events.

To cut it short, instead of ganking I usually MC-PW: Fortitude Hordies, usually lower levels while I grind for CC rep in Silithus because I know that extra 700 hp helps a lot.

This happened when I was in Eastern Plaguelands though. I landed in Light's Hope and was on my way to Stratholme for some orbs. While riding, I saw a level 58 shaman at around 10% hp without mana facing a ghoul at 60% health, I dismounted to help him but he died, I got flagged so I had to kill the mob.

Then I looted the mob and told the story in guild chat, linking the loot later on... Elemental Mage Staff.

I didn't expect to find much about WoW to enjoy. I'm an old board gamer, who moved over to PnP when this new idea of "role playing" started. In my mind, AH still means Avalon Hill.

I started playing because I teach in China, where many of my students are wild about WoW. The problem is, I can't read or speak Chinese, but have to play using the Chinese interface (PvE server). I don't know what it is like on non-Chinese servers, where Chinese players seem to have a poor reputation. For me, however, I've had a good time -- and it is because of the people who pitch in randomly. Because of the language barrier, and my foolish tendency to teach insane course loads, I'm not likely to become involved with content that requires guild membership or a high level character; however, I've found many players to be quite helpful ... even when communication is limited to emotes.

Speaking as a new player and a low level who is apt to be on the receiving end of the "good Samaritan" stories, thanks to all of you who take a moment to lend a hand. It helps take the game beyond just being a grind for levels/gear -- which is what I had expected it to be.
