I'm goin shaman - Orc or Troll, what do you prefer?Follow

#1 Nov 26 2006 at 3:19 PM Rating: Decent
I'm making my first horde character and I chose to start with shaman, but the problem is, I don't know whether to go troll or orc. I found that orcs have slightly more strength, stamina, intellect, and spirit, but the difference between agility is considerable. I don't know if the slight difference in the other skills will matter that much in later levels, but the agility could.

I'd like to hear any oppinions available. I need more comparison to make a decision, thanks all :)

Well for me Depends on what Spec I'm Planing on going with the Char.

Troll:Restoration or Elemental

Orc:Enhancement or Elemental

Troll=Restoration or Elemental
Why?
Berserking is a not too bad Racial ,I've used it before to get off an extra heal or Lightning Off.Regeneration is not too bad(faster regen/10% regen in-combat).Beast Slaying is okay... but isn't really that useful.Throwing Weapon Specialization and Bow Specialization are useless.

Orc=Enhancement or Elemental
Why?
Blood Fury is good for Enchancement(since its melee) to increase its attack power.Hardiness is good for fight rouges and could be important when casting.Axe Specialization is always good.Atho Command is useless.

Theres a link here on starting a Shammy for you.

And if you don't care about that stats mumbo-jumbo , just go with what you want your char to look like (since you'll be seening him/her like that for the char's "lifespan")

Also why didn't you consider being a Tauren Shammy?

Btw this imo

Just go with whatever you will like looking at most of your time on WoW. I chose troll b/c of the "Voodooish" culture, they seem more shamanistic to me.

Tauren Shamans are the best

My shaman is Troll and i hate the race. If you are sure you're either choosing between Troll or Orc then definately go Orc. Personally, though, if I could go back to when I made my shammy, I'd get a Tauren.

Ps. On a side note, someone mentioned that Orcish blood rage is melee only. In the next patch (and on the test realm now) it will work for casters as well.

Good question Anubite, I don't know why I didn't consider tauren shammy. I chose troll over orc because looks and since the difference in stats doesnt matter that much, but the agility gap may have a little more noticable effect when critical strike comes into play. As for the tauren? Well, they do have great strength but still they have the lowest agility of the three, and intellect, although it's not too much lower than the others, is the lowest. Is pure strength what your looking for in a shaman? Trolls seem to be the more well balanced race and from what I've seen, shaman are more of a balanced character with a little bit of everything and I saw troll fulfilling that role more than the others.

Orcs have 2 abilities useful to me as a shaman, trolls have 3 (the only REAL effective ability is berserking and health regen helps a little), but all of tauren's abilities benefit the shaman. This is a real tough decision here. I guess it's all a matter of comparing abilities. I still have some time before I make this character so I'd like to figure this out and hope you all can help me out :), Thanks again all :)

Racial Stats don't make big difference after lvl10 and make none difference after lvl20, it's all about gear. Racial abilities make difference, but all are great in some situations.
Just chose a race you can watch for long time and stick with it, it doesn't make game breaking difference if you are troll, orc or tauren.

QFT. First, don't base your choice on the starting stats: the difference is so small that you won't even notice it in a few levels. Stats are--for the most part--fully customizable through gear. Which leads to another can of worms: what stats you want as a shaman... but I'll save that for the shaman forums.

If you must, compare the races by racial traits instead. IMHO, tauren is the most versatile, but that's not to say orc/troll racials are bad. Pick what you think you'll use most; there is no one truly gimped race.

However, I think the most important consideration is looks. You'll be staring at this toon's *** for 60+ levels, might as well be a race you like to look at.

Eh...gear is only half the battle. Skill is what counts when both sides are equally geared. If you know your abilities and practice different tactics on different types of mobs, you will become skilled. Or you can just uber-gear and mash buttons frantically, and you will never rise above the rank of n00b.

Agree agree agree. If you think orcs are teh k00l, go with orcs. I'm a pervy Troll fancier so the choice was made before I decided to play a shammy in the first place.

I ment stats are all about gear after level 20, not the whole game. :)

Edit: I messed quoting.

I just made my alt shaman a couple days ago, troll, lvl 16 now.
Some people say that troll racials are not good. Damn, my out-of-battle health regen is almost as good as my mana's (thought not quite xD), tho I don't think it'll stay that noticeable for long I think it does make a slight diference. Beast slaying is great for killing little shapeshifted druid-******* and hunter pets if you need to, and somewhat pretty useful for a skinner such as my shammy :D of course, throwing weapons spec no use but berserkering can give you a little edge if you know how and when to use it, I usually use it for quick heals in battle (it's saved my *** more than a couple of times) and manage to land a couple quick blows before it wears off.
Orcs also have nice racials, stun resist chance is always nice, but damn, if I took an orc I'd make a hunter, that's what they're perfect for.
