New to WoW. Most valuable class arena/BG class? Alliance.Follow

#1 Nov 25 2006 at 7:50 AM Rating: Decent
Hey guys. I'm gonna be starting WoW here shortly to play with a few irl friends and was wondering what are some of the better classes that are wanted/needed for groups. I'm kinda stuck between Mage, Hunter, Rogue, Priest. Everyone likes to be the guy who does the most damage, but I don't really mind playing a support role either. I'm an oldschool UO vet and I'm used to/prefer group play and teamwork. I was thinking Priest (Shadow) but not entirely sure. I keep hearing people say "Healing is boring" but I honestly can't imagine it's anymore boring that hitting a monster and from what I understand atleast with Shadow you can deal some decent damage when need be. I'd appreciate any opions/builds if you guys feel generous enough. I can't stand reading worldofwarcraft.com anymore. It gives me a headache with all the bickering.

Well, the best support class that doesn't suck in and of itself(Druid) is Paladin. It also has the ability to pretty much not die. You'll have a nice kill:death ratio, though you won't be killing as fast as most. However, you can work through other people with your amazing buffs and heals. Your Hammer of Justice and Hammer of Wrath and Seals can aid your allies substantially. Auras and Blessing make -Paladin+any other class- the best combo in the game. (My favorite is Paladin+Warlock, but you know :P) As a Paladin, you won't be a flag runner. However, you can still solo and be the best damn flag runner's secretary you'd ever see. Just don't shield a flag runner...

So yeah. To me, Paladins are my favorite class. If you played Warcraft 3, do you remember how rigged Divine Shield was in beating enemies? You could shield up, kill buildings, then run back before the shield ended. And stun? Still owns.

Shaman can own with complete idiots at the wheel, but Warlocks can own the hardest when you have skill. 'Nuff said? Or are you willing to actually play with other people to own, therefore Paladin?

Wow, I'm not sure where to start.

First of all, the reason people don't reply is because they don't know the answer to your question. We don't do the whole "zomg fitrs paege!!11" thing here. Second, insulting us afterwards isn't the best way to ask for help. We're not idiots, we understand plain English. Third, your question isn't really a question. You tell us a lot of things about a class as if you're trying to convince us that the Priest class rocks.

Examples:

"Everyone likes to be the guy who does the most damage, but I don't really mind playing a support role either."

"I was thinking Priest (Shadow) but not entirely sure. I keep hearing people say "Healing is boring" but I honestly can't imagine it's anymore boring that hitting a monster and from what I understand atleast with Shadow you can deal some decent damage when need be."

You want to support, heal, deal damage and be wanted in groups/battlegrounds.

That sounds a lot like the Priest class. Look at the colored quotes. The red is the negative you say about rolling a Priest, the green is the positive. I see a majority of green in those quotes.

So in fact, this thread was just made in hopes that someone would come along and agree with you, making you sure in your case about whether or not you should roll a Priest. Your mind is already set on it. Amirite?

Go with what you like, man. Seriously, don't do like I and worry about what other people want. You don't pay and play to please others. That's called "work" and they should be paying you for that... Smiley: wink2

Well usually the most demanded class for instances is a healer (priest or paladin, maybe even a druid). But then the group also needs someone dealing damage (druid in cat form, rogue, mage?) and another person taking all the damage (warrior, druid in bear form). I am a hunter and found that I barely ever get asked to do an instance, I have to form my own group in order to go, whereas my bf who is a druid gets to go through instances all the time.
Druid would be the one to go for, but you stated you were choosing between Mage, Hunter, Rogue or Priest, so nevermind that theory.
Good luck in choosing a class you enjoy, hope I was of some help to your decision.

*sigh* You guys apparently missed my first post on the thread ;). The whole l33t speak was a joke because it just seems the people (not neccesarily this site..more on worldofwarcraft.com) the people who type like tards get more replies. All in all I appreciate it.

Nah, not at all. I actually pick my new comp up next week. I'm just going by what I've read. People say healing is boring..I just can't imagine it being any less boring than hitting a mob or something that is all. When I say support it doesn't neccesarily mean a healing type either. I'm just saying I don't have to be the baddest DPS in the game in order to enjoy myself.

Edit - The damn quote thing didn't work. This was in reply to Mazra ;p.

The best thing to do is just try everything out. I know some people who absolutely love being the healer. I, for one, like tanking (even if I kinda suck at it). Try every class to at least 20 or so to get a feel for them all. You'll eventually figure out what you enjoy. :)

I haven't done a lot of instances with my priest but I don't find healing boring (you work like hell if people over agro) and you will ALWAY'S find a group for your instance.

I really enjoy playing hybrids, being able to play different roles in the group keeps it fun to me. Sometimes in BG's I'll **** off the opposite faction and help my group out by doing nothing but healing. Other times I'll try to get the top position on the score sheet.

In PvE groups, having the option to join the group as a healer or a dps role is a nice change of playstyle rather then doing the regular grind.

So give Druid, Shaman, or Paladin a try.

My priest is only lvl 15ish or so, so I can't really comment for ya. ><

rated the original post down for asking a question that was answered in the "READ THIS BEFORE POSTING" FAQ.
Quote:
1. "What is the best race/class?"
The races and classes in the game are well balanced. If you make a post asking "What is the best race?" or "What is the best class?". be prepared for flames. There is no uber-class/race. Visit the class forums and read the stickies there. Do your homework instead of asking others to do it for you. In the end, class/race is an individual choice. Pick one you think you will enjoy playing and try it out. In fact, pick several and try them all out. You should also look over Ideggeries Post Beginner's Info.

2. "What is the best class for PvP?"
After looking over many, many threads on the subject, the consensus seems to center around rogues as the best PvP class. Rogues have many advantages. Stealth, stun-lock, and high DPS seem to be the reasons that rogues are favored. Warlocks come in a close second.

3. "What is the best class for levelling?"
After looking over many, many threads on the subject, the consensus seems to center around Hunter as being the best class for fast levelling. High DPS, coupled with a pet that can tank seem to be the main reasons behind this.

Rated this one down for assuming that we are dumb leeters.

5. "i cant speel ore use grammer but i still post can u tell me y my posts r ingored?"
If you don't want to be ignored, use proper English. This includes capitalization, punctuation, and not using abbreviations or 1337-speak. The same holds for in-game - you can't be taken seriously without knowing how to write. If you are unsure of your spelling, there is online help available at Dictionary.com. Dictionary.com also provides a thesaurus, so you can try using different words in your sentences. The best reference for sentence construction that I've found is on Wikipedia.

This, while not changing anything about your post, is easier to read than your wall of text.

Also, if you haven't already, read the FAQ on top of the forum, it will save you lots of grief.

This is in reply to "ohmikegod". Where in my post did I ask what is the best PvP race/cass? I simply asked what is the better class for groups/support. Now..maybe I did..my memory these days is kind of shot (atleast short term). I appreciate the help, but at the same time you don't have to come across like an arrogant **** to prove a point. Nobody is impressed. Also, maybe you could, maybe you couldn't tell the l33t speak was a joke..perhaps you missed my first post? Take it easy and loosen up.

My Priest gets three to four times as many Looking for Group whispers as any of my other characters. Being Shadow, I’ve also had an awesome time camping the 40-49 battlegrounds.

So yeah, your first instinct is good, try a Priest.

Assuming you want to stay a part of this community, you might also try apologizing.

Apologize for..?

Oh, you mean calling him a "Richard" heh. Sure, I'll apologize for that but I still think my point is valid. He could of easily put it in a little bit better context, not to mention I don't think anyone can disagree with what I said about most MMO communities today sucking. It wasn't really a jab at this board or WoW, just a general opinion of mine I've noticed in the past few years.

Bleh, gotta go hiking.

Best support healer/support is priest, druid, shaman and paladin, each in it's own way.
Think paladin is only one of them who kinda sucks in damage ( not sure as I have played one only to lvl33, will do one to 60 when TBC is out), all other classes can do nice damage in speced right.
None of the classes is better then other, they are just different.

Who is most wanted? Main healer and tank is probably the one who will get group easiest, but I never had problems in getting group on hunter/druid/lock/shaman which I all played to 60.
Of the healing classes are for main healer best suited priest and druid, doesn't matter much how speced (again don't know that much about paladin).
