Great thread, already thinking about trying some of those out for my mage!

By the way, Gatherer also indicates where you've found chests and schools of fish.

Outfitter is a very handy mod for switching gear, which I find essential on my druid as I can set up different sets of kit for healing / bear / cat which then automatically change when I shapeshift. I think it'd be useful for any class though, as it has options for riding (automatically equip Carrot on a Stick when mounted), Argent Dawn (automatically equip trinket when in the Plaguelands), around town (your sexy-looking but not-so-great gear), PVP and so on, as well as being able to set up custom sets.

Another one I use is CritLine, which tells you your record (both critical and non-critical) for every spell / attack you use. It stores this on a table accessible from an icon on the edge of the mini map, and can be set to automatically take a screenshot when you get a new personal best. It's not so much useful as fun really, but it's nice to know what the hardest you've ever hit something is :)

Also, KLH ThreatMeter is very useful, particularly in raiding, to show who is at the top of the threat list. Lets the dps know when to back off a bit and the tanks know when thay have to step it up. Only those with the mod installed show on the list I believe.

Auto Resurrect - does what it says. Handy because quite often people will go afk if they die when in a group to get a drink or something. This mod lets you automatically accept a resurrection from another player (not a spirit healer rez) so you can be healed, buffed and ready to go by the time you get back to your keyboard.

And the add on that is useful for a paladin

Pallypower Adds a interface with which you can configure what buffs paladins in your raid are casting on which classes, and gives the paladin a quick view of time remaining and how many players need each buff.

For the adventurous, some of the most well written mods are from the coders at Ace ( http://www.wowace.com ) and are available in beta form well before being posted to wowinterface through an SVN server. There are help files available on how to checkout mods from an SVN server.

Some of them take a bit of work to configure but for the most part they are very slick and very memory efficient.

Being a minimalist I got my interface to where the only thing displayed when running around is the chat box. I have a HUD, an emergency list for people who need to be healed and a target mod that show up when needed. The PerfectTarget mod is not a tank target mod, but rather it shows any mobs in range that are targetted by other people in your party or raid. My raid frame is compact, all the default frames are skinned, and all this stuff is very efficient from a code point of view.

Of course everything will be broken next week with the patch, but they have a good number of devs that were given beta accounts to work on replacement mods for the expansion.

I have a friend looking for one that we have been unable to locate. It is basically a damage meter, but not like DamageMeter. We saw someone use it in an instance, and every so often the stats would show up in the chat messages. It would show who was doing the most dps, and healing the most. They don't really want to have just some bars on their screen showing it-they want to be able to relay it in chat. <If that is a function of DamageMeter, I must have missed it> Thanks for your help.

Damage meters are dangerous. It leads to players that watch the damage meters instead of providing teamwork - which leads to wipes. Damage meters must be used with caution, and NEVER displayed while in an instance. They are really only useful after everything is over, for debriefing purposes.

Heh, great cartoon. =) I was hesitant to ask, because I was pretty certain that they aren't really kosher. I sort of in a round-a-bout way tried to tell him this, but I'm his "add-on guru" ('get me the cool stuff, pleeeeease!') and I looked around for him. I appreciate the answer Mike, I will tell him to ask the next person he sees using it where they got it, and maybe I will try to talk some sense into him. ;)

It is probably more for his 11yr old who also plays and has a bit too much competition on certain things. (and who plays a shaman who I told a million times would have to respec resto if and when he hit 60 and joined a raiding guild-and last week when he joined one, I got to say "I told you so". Heh)

I like it, but I notice a distinct lack of Ace mods, or some of the more "advanced" mods.

It's a great start, for sure.

I wanted to add this mod: cartographer. It's a map addon, changing your map and adding on raid party members in different colors, drops from mobs in certain instances including a separate section telling which items drop from heroics, where the bosses are in each instance and a few other things. It's well worth the download.

Hey i didnt see anything on KHL Threat Meter this is the addon og the gods and should absolutly be in there.

Also perhaps you could add a section on compilations. Their a great way to get into addons and find what you need.

ones that i can think of off the top of my head:
CT Mod
MazzleUI
