It would make sense if it was "one roll per class", but that's not what was being said.

Nobody DE's set pieces if they can go to the appropriate class.

If they are, they're loot *****. Get out while the getting's good and find a real party.

Sometimes you cannot get the rules through a persons thick skull. We had discussed the loot rules ahead of time in UBRS the other day. The usual pass, discuss, then roll need, afterwhich rolling for shard would be none if no one rolled need. Well a caster ring dropped off Rend. Something like 8 int. 8 mana regen every 5 secs and 1% crit chance with spells. We all pass like normal. Leader says roll afterwards. A hunter rolled against mage, shaman, priest. Me being a hunter myself said WTF? He said he wasn't rolling need he was rolling for greed. I reminded him the roll after pass was for need only and greed after that. So they roll again. Hunter rolls again. We were flabbergasted. He said that if people needed it they should have rolled during the main roll. Tried telling him again we pass then.

He kept saying he was greed rolling it and refused to feel bad about it. I finally told the shaman to just take it. Worse than that is, spaulders of elements dropped. We all pass. We had shamans in the group. The same hunter says, "Can I have that? It is an upgrade for me?" It is pass then roll for need noob! Damn some people do not listen.

A lot of good things have been collected here. I think though that it might need to be stressed that Tier 0 set pieces, even though they do not have class limitations, should always go in preference to the intended class. Beasstalker should always got to a hunter over a shaman (and Pallies and Warriors shouldn't even look at it), Devout should always go to a priest over a mage or lock (or pally), etc... Not usually, not most of the time, ALWAYS. But also, the set piece in question should always be equipped (and soulbound) by the winner. Nothing is more frustrating than losing a roll on a set piece to another member of your class and seeing it up for auction next to their name the next day. If you're going to claim NEED, be prepared to prove it.

Loot rules should also always be stated at the start of the 'raid'. '1B 1S' is pretty common, but doesn't mention what happens when an epic drops. This is where having an ML is crucial.

BoP epics should go only to a class that will benefit from them, and not be sharded if anyone can get legitimate use from the item. BoE epics that are not set-pieces should go to the high roller, period. Anyone can sell a BoE and get the loot, just as anyone can buy an epic. But a set piece should go to a member of the class that can use the set, HOWEVER, they must equip (and soulbind) the item in front of everyone.

The real issue with Master Looter is that it requires everyone to trust the Master Looter. Which simply isn't going to happen in PuGs. I will not group with Master Looter with someone I don't know.

And if everyone knows each other, there is no need for Master Looter.

If you can get a group to come along and use Master Looter, great...but I'd be shocked if that happens any more than a rare handful of times.

At least with Group Loot you have a shot at the item even if someone tries to ninja it.

EDIT--I did think of one time I did use Master Looter. I put together a mostly-guild raid for the Abyssal Lords in Silithus (pre-nerf). We needed to flesh our ranks out with pickups though, and I used master looter to prevent ninja-ing. However, this is a somewhat unique situation as I provided all the mats, and everyone got a reward (Cenarion reputation) for coming.

Occasionally, if numbers for a group are low, a couple of lower level players may be allowed to join the raid group to make up a full raid. Set pieces should always go to players who can equip straight away. Nothing is worse than having some lvl 56 player winning a piece with a lvl 57 requirement that you can equip straight away.

Only time I have used ML in a PuG was an UBRS run with an idiot ninja. Even then, it was a guildie who was ML, and the party went along because two of us could say "I know him, I am in Vent with him, he's a decent guy." with one addition of "and I know where he lives." As far as loot rules I'm a big fan of the "Don't be a Richard." loot rules, saves a lot of time on the rolling, especially if 5-manning someplace, you're gonna get more loot than people.

Then again, I prefer to just use need/greed on gear with the opinion that if you wanted a shard you should've been an enchanter. This is because it takes forever to move shards on my server, a lot of blues (especially weapons) vend for more than our server's shards, and enchanters often go on auto and shard before I can ask them not to if I win. I had a guy pick up the SC gloves (300g on AH) and shard them for a 3-4g shard. If you need mats that badly I will GIVE you a shard.

EDIT: as for tier 0 always going to the specified class, if at the beginning ofthe run I mention I am a feral druid and ask the rogue if I can roll on the SC cap if it drops, and he says sure, he has no right to whine when I win. True story. I'm still using the cap. Love the hate-mail I get from rogues whi spot me in it.

Anyone who would see a piece of gear on a total stranger, and send them hate mail about it.. (unless they lost a roll to you or something) is someone who seriously needs to get laid.

I mean COME ON. So a person you've never met got an item on an instance run where you were not present.....wtf?

Bumpage.

In lower level instances, it's a good idea to state at the beginning of the instance that you will be using Master Looter for bosses and such like. I did a guild run of SM Arm, but seeing as how one player wasn't in our guild, I put on Master Looter when we reached Herod to prevent any 'accidents'.

The priest kicked up a fuss saying everyone in the group has the right to roll (which is true) but I don't think he realized people who needed would roll using the /roll command after we'd seen what had dropped. He ******* and moaned until I put group loot back on.

Higher level instances, ML is usually on permanently

Exactly, could have won it FFA. Ive had to use Master loot whilst doing a Deadmines Run. I'm amazed that you would Ninja at such a low level instance.
