I would never join a guild where the leader just sits there and yells at people in raids, its just assenine and never works.

I was in such a guild. It wasn't like that at first, or didn't seem that way. Everyone told me "Oh, she doesn't mean anything by it" and such. Certain people just have totally dominating personalities, and they can make you think that being verbally abused is normal, you deserve it, it's not that bad, etc. She was ex-military, if you can imagine the raids being run as seriously as a drill squad, well, that's how she was. We were her soldiers. And she didn't do it every night. We had plenty of raids where she was in a pleasant mood, or not there, and it was always a relief.

But once my husband and I realized we weren't having fun at all, we just kinda silently stopped coming. And we're a lot better off for it now. We're guilded with mostly single college guys now, not like the couples guild that the other was, but the leader is a lot more laid back and there's less yelling and everyone treats it like a game. Plus they're better players. :\

Just wanted to put in that it's not always complete morons that end up in a guild like what I'm imagining. Often the true colors don't show for several weeks or months, and by then you're loathe to leave the people you do like.

True, and sometimes the dominating-personality GMs get alot of results out of their guilds so people are loathe to leave because of the overall progression of the guild.

There's a guild on Illidan, everyone makes fun of the guild and it's GM (cause he's an idiot), but there's no denying that he runs a tight ship and the guild functions like a well oiled-machine. It's his way or the highway, and alot of people choose his way because it brings about results.

I often wonder what someone with a serious background in psycology would make of the kind of drama that goes on end-game guilds like that. I keep in touch with a friend who still plays on my old server and he's constantly telling stories with lines like:

"well you know guild x, they split off from guild y and stole half of guild z right? Well they were farming rag and working on BWL and then their guild master got pissed at some people and just disbanded the whole guild. Well some of them are now guild a, but like a third went and started guld b and guild b is now flaming guild a on the fourms with guild z joining in so they hate each other......."

and it goes on, but what's scary isn't that this hapened because you'll find the same type of thing in most any social group, what's scary is that this happened in about two weeks.

Pricks I can understand causing it, but some of these people seem perfectly rational, reasonable and polite when you talk to them. The mind boggles.

Also understandable, but believe me when I say that is NOT what kept us in our guild for so long. :3 The new guild is already almost caught up with the old one and I'm not quite even 60 yet. And the new guild is 90% new to WoW entirely.

Damn they took down the original thread.

File can be downloaded here:

http://files.filefront.com/getchazip/;4746191;;/fileinfo.html

and a nice ytmnd can be found here:

http://www.totgoesboom.ytmnd.com/

Highlights include a Computer voice and Kermit the Frog trying to make peace at around the 10-12 min mark, as well as Getcha totally loosing it around 28:00.

Wow...just wow...

On the issue of being GM and that harsh just to get results, there must be a balance of what a GM must display. He was way off balanced, going with a mean spirited, angry and unfortunately it drove his members away. Same would have been said if he was hellishly passive. The guy was a ******* though, and he got what he deserved. Truthfully I do feel for him as a GM since all the frustrations of having that spot managed to have built up and finally exploded the way it did on vent. I'm sure he was a nicer man earlier in his WoW career but alas, the end game kinda screwed with his attitude. Not rare but it is still unfotunate.

If I ever had a chance to ever run a guild, I'd go for something that leads to less drama...like a PvP guild. All we need now is for Blizzard to fix PvP in general :(

Yeah I can't totally fault the guy as I imagine its really tough to lead a high end guild. That said, holy crap! Also, damn is the southern chick who won't stop talking annoying.

I just listened to parts of that but the file quality sucks so I skipped a great deal.

I come away from it with just one thought.

They shouldn't give teamspeak to morons.
