MMORPGS ?????Follow

#1 Dec 28 2005 at 10:32 PM Rating: Decent
I played EQOA for a total of around 18-20 months. I had to quit because i go to boarding school now. EQOA was the first real mmorpg that i have played. Since i quit i have been playing other mmos trying to find a replacement for EQOA. And so far my search has been invain. I guess what i am trying to get at is, is EQII similiar to EQOA at all? Is game play about the same, and story line, do they relate at all? I would love to start playing EQ again but i dont know if this version is good. Good you guys plz answer my questions about it, just general questions about the game and comparisons and just general "newb" questions. All appreciated,
MindBound d:-P
PS. In EQII does your "class" be able to choose MCs? Or masterclasses as in EQOA, pretty much what i want to get out of this post is what are the differences/similiarites between EQII and EQOA?

Hi mind, just to answer your question, they have similar but different stories. You will recognize some of the content, but things have changed over the last 1000 years. You would believe how easy it is to get to blackborrow from Qeynos now.

Game play is totally different, it is because of the difference from using a control compared to a keyboard.

The game play is more complicated in EQ2, you dont usually use oldversions of abilities here, since they have the same recast timer as the new version. Targeting is easier, especially groupmates. Raids are more organized since you combine groups in a raid. Not as much ninja looting. No repair costs unless you die.

Food and drink dont stop during combat, they just suspend, and start back up after combat is over. The game is much more solo friendly, and diverse on what the group can do. crafting is also much better here.

At this point they dont do MC's, and I cant say they will ever have mc's, but it would be nice if they did. They may do a cm type system for character development, but cant say for sure what they have their minds set on.

I do enjoy this game, I cant say if you will or not. I would recomend seeing if your computer can handle the game, and then do the trial of the isle free trial.

I have to ask.. What is MC??

I never played EQOA so I can't really help ya out on that. All I have heard about it is that it is similar to eq1 in the aspects of lack of soloing and forced grouping etc. I have to say I would like to play eqoa just long enough to look around and see what norrath was like back then, otherwise it doesn't interest me.

MC is master class. At 55 all players had a choice of atleast 4 MCs to specialize their character more. They had 2-4 class, one archtype, and one racial. At 55 you gat a new title, and more stats and mods, then at 60 you could buy more abilities for that mc. They also have a CM system, kinda like they AA system in eq. It sacrificed xp for upgraded spells, new spells, better stats, and higher maxes.

Well, I'm pretty sure my computer can handle it, all i konw is that i got a brand new HP model computer, i play KO, Knight Online on it and it doesnt lag at all,(Knight Online is a wannabee MMORPG but its fun) im pretty sure it could handle it, will a new computer that costs around 1500 do you think that it would be able to handle it. I will not be able to run the trial until tomorrow because i am not at my house atm. But tomorrow i will run the trial and see if i it will work. Any certain server that is the best? Like on EQOA how like CLW ownd PPO and such, what is the most beginner friendly server, the oldest and most populated??? Thanx

Najena is a good server with lots of guild of all levels, plus a bustling population.

Even though many have gained levels and are adventuring in the high zones, there are still many low level folks, making it a breeze to get a group.

Price is not so much a factor of performance - specs are. You'll need at least 1GB RAM (2GB recommended), at least 128MB on your video card (256 recommended), and at least 2MHZ processor.

You CAN play the game with lower specs, but you will then face lower graphics and more lag.

Yeah, but dont most new computers have the right specs to run most new top of line games right? I asked my bro who is a computer wiz if my computer would be able to handle it or not and he said DUH OF COURSE IT WILL RUN IT STUPID. So i dont konwe i guess it wil work

Why not post your specs here, that way we can give you a thorough look.

• AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ dual-core processor with enhanced virus protection (2.0GHz)
• 1.0GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
• 250GB hard drive
• Double-layer DVD±R/RW drive with LightScribe, CD-RW combo drive
• DVD-ROM drive
• Integrated ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 graphics
• 9-in-1 digital media card reader

i think thats all the specs, they are either these or better specs, i could run it on these specs right?

The only thing that might hold you back if the video card. ATI has some good cards, but they also have a bunch of crap that is usually built into PC's with a fancy name. I don't know alot about ATI so I Can't say if yours is any good or not. But you got plenty of CPU speed and plenty of ram to run it at a reasonable speed. I am pretty sure the way it looks your ATI card is probably one of the classic shared video memory cards (meaning it uses ram memory for the video card) IF that is the case it is not real good.

i have no idea, i konw how to get around computers real well but dont konw **** about the details, but like i posted above i play knight online on my computer it has pretty high standards and its a n mmorpg, and i play other games and the graphics are crystal clear so i dont think that will be an issue, and if it is , i can get my friend to get me a better card, but other than that other specs look fine???

Yes, you will do fine once you get a video card.

Keep in mind that there are many video settings to EQ2, and there is no computer available that can play the game on it's best setting.

Once you install and play, adjust the video settings to find the right balance of perfemance and display.

Thank You ^ >.<

Ok mind, since you are an EQOA player you can do the station pass option, and still keep your old characters on EQOA if you remember your old signin and password. You also get the adventure packs for free. It is a $21 or so flat fee for all SOE games.

Well first of all you do not need to make a new account if you have your EQOA account. When you bring up the patcher you can select "use existing account" and then you wil be able to use your EQOA account. Second of all like Dirges said it has some aspects from EQOA but of course its not like it in the combat :P and the people are nicer lol. There are no MC/CMs but you do get to branch classes. not going to explain inless you want me to...well hope to see ya on Antonia Bayle :P
