Can someone help me find some things?Follow

I'm new to EQ and I have a few questions with regard to locating good armor. What's the best way to find items for a scout? I'm going on lvl 30 and have yet to find a decent helmet or shield. I'm on part 6 of Ian's Forgetful Family quest and he gave me some good stuff so far but no weapon, helmet or shield. Do I even need a shield? I hate the way it looks (like a mexican sombrero).
I don't know what weapon is best suited for a scout or how to locate one so help with that would be appreciated as well.

Best place to find armor is at the Broker. That is the NPC vendor that lists all the items for sale by other players.

It could be loot drops or crafted items, you will always find a large amount of gear for sale. And it's not just armor, but anything that can be sold...weapons, food, furniture, crafting components, etc.

Each Wholesale Tradeskill instance has a broker, and there is an outdoor broker in Qeynos Harbor, and another broker in a merchant building north of the giant claymore, in North Qeynos.

Double-click the broker and a search wiondow will pop up allowing you to refine your search to specific items. Make sure you have your cash on hand, as you will make the purchase right there.

All these items are from players in Qeynos, If you don't find what you need, you can always go to the semi-illegal Fence in Qeynos Harbor. This shady character sells items from players in Freeport. The mark-up is a little more, but you may find just what you need.

To get to The Fence, in Qeynos Harbor near the statue of Queen Antonica, jump into the moat (not the bay) and swim under the wooden planks. You will see a small hole on the side - swim through it and up into a small room. Not to worry, you can make the entire swim on less than half a breath.

Being a Scout, you need to use Dual Wield weapons. And if you are a Ranger or Assassin, make sure you equip and use poisons. Your damage will rise considerably.

Quest armor is ok, but not as good as the player-made stuff you can get from the Broker.

While you're at the Broker, make sure you also shop for upgrades to your skills. At level 30 you should have all skills at least Adept 1, maybe a few Adept III's.

For weapons, I prefer fast swinging weapons. I try to use one slash and one pierce to help keep both skills up.

Gear you are best looking on auction and doing as many quests as possible. I believe the farseas trading company guy audin drodo in the enchanted land may give a nice helmet, but it has been a while.

Also in Enchanted Lands is Sir Tatters which gives out a easy and quick quest for a nice ring.

Also look into Zek to get a Deathfist Utility Weapon from these guys. Another quick and easy-to-do quest.

Speaking as a scout, (lvl 35 ranger), you will probably never see a situation where you would want to use a one handed weapon and a shield. I know I never have!

Your best DPS will come from a pair of fast dual wield weapons. Each with a swing time of around 1.2 or 1.4

Like Dirges, I prefer to carry one slash and one pierce. That way, both your skills stay maxed but also, if you come across a mob who is not affected by one or the other you will still do damage.

If you can afford to get one or both weapons imbued, you will greatly increase the amount of damage you do since the damage proc from imbuing hits almost every fight and does a good amount of damage. Also, if you can afford to buy one or both weapons made from the rare metal in each tier, the damage takes another large jump.

Be aware that current belief is that only one of the two DW weapons you are carrying can proc during a fight so buying 2 imbued weapons will only help you when you are up against a named or boss mob who is unaffected by one type of damage. For these situations, you could also carry an additional weapon for each type of damage and switch one out so for that mob, you were wielding two both weapons of the effective type.

What I am currently doing, (in T4), is carrying a rare imbued slash in main and a nice quested piercer, (purchased off the broker), in off-hand. Between the rare metal, the imbue and the poison I get high DPS and lots of procs.

And finally, do use poison... always...

You can concurrently apply one poison of each type and any or all can proc during each and every swing. So, for example, you could have a DoT, and a de-buff both going at the same time.

My preference in poison is to use a damage poison with a high initial hit and a small DoT. The reason for this is that any multiple proc, (of that type of poison), will over-write the initial proc so I like to get my damage up front in case of a re-proc. (If the de-buff procs, it will not over-write the damage proc.)

Regarding Drodo in EL, he does have a fun series of quests that all yield armor, (including a cap), however, they are for light armor, (leather), and you should be wearing medium, (chain).

There is a guy named Spindlecog in the Baubleshire, (standing in the bank), who gives out a quest series where the reward is a nice cap in cloth, leather or chain... there may even be a plate model available! There are 3 or 4 steps to the quest and the final reward is the chainmail cap that is the "recommended" completion to the scout AQ series. (since no headgear is included in any of the AQ series)

Thanks for your time. I will take what you said and put it to good use.
One more question....what are the pouches for and should I use one if I already have a bow? I assume u can put arrows in them but if they go in your ranged slot, how do u use the bow?

Pouches are for holding inventory. Put them in you inventory slots below your picture, and they increase how much you can hold. these are especially important to carry all the merchant fodder you will collect to sell.

For arrows you can just put them right in the slot on the bottom right corner of your inventory screen. A bow goes right next to it. For throwing weapons there are bandolirs and other equipable devices to store your throwing weapons.

The pouches you mentioned might be the ones that hold thrown weapons like knives and throwing stars. These are for the use of those poor unfortunates who can't use a bow! Or, they could be the small 4-8 slot bags that go in your regular inventory slots. These, (along with most any other bag), could be used to hold arrows but you have a much better option.

With a quiver placed in your ammo slot, you can hold hundreds & hundreds of arrows, all conviently equipped and ready to be slung with great force into the next available mob! Quivers are made by tailors and although they were just introduced recently, there should be plenty of them available at a reasonable price on the broker.

I play a ranger, mid 30s also.

As far as armor goes, go to Zek, Hammer there give quest to get Emerald hide armor which is pretty good, also the ikky cook at the respawn site gives out nice wpns.

For me, I medium armor chest piece, but light armor legs.

You have to decide what the compromise will be, a little less Mitigation v a little better avoidance. And then the stats play into that as well.
