Is this game not very popular or something?Follow

I read the FFXI boards, and I just went to see WoW... and then here... this place is dead. How populated is EQII? And do a lot of people still play the original instead?

I don't know if EQ2 is as popular as it was when it first came out, however there are plenty of people in game. Everquest 1 anymore is mainly your hardcore eat sleep and play type of people. If your not allready level 65+ with high end gear your pretty much left out. I have actually moved on from eq1 to eq2 because of this. I have (had) a 69 monk on eq1 with 65aa's epic 1.0 couple of raid drops, even more bazaar gear. I am WAY behind about anybody else that level. Almost every group I get into I am out DPSed by the TANK classes, and almost all the casters have more HP then I do.

It's a popular game but for these boards not many play. I think a big part has to do with the fact that allas sadly hasnt been able to keep up with all the info for the game, causing more EQ2 players to go to other boards.

These boards are not dead, they are monitored by many great posters that provide a wealth of information. If someone posts a question, they will be provided useful answer.

You may also find someone commenting on an aspect of the game, and others weigh in with their opinions.

So many of the same questions have been asked and answered, that folks may find what they need by doing what you're doing, reading the forums.

What you won't find here are useless posts like, "OMG OMG I like am teh total 7331 haCzoRz pWndaDdy!!!11!!". There is no place here for that rubbish, this crowd is a bit more mature. And if someone posts flames, they will usually get the same in return. If someone posts with polite manners, they will get the same in return.

So if you have a question about the game, we're always listening.

To finally answer your question, the last known number I've heard was around 200,000'ish. That pales in comparison to WoW that sports millions of players.

But the two games are different, each has a style of it's own. Because of that, you should check out each game, then settle in on what suits you. You can try this and tell us how you like it.

I think that is really glossing over the fact that so many of the features (not just entries) of the EQ1 side of this site are missing from the EQ2 side. VERY disappointing for a pay site.

It used to be you could enter your character's equipment and make wish lists. That was worth my money, but is NOT there for EQ2. And that is not a matter of popularity, but simple programming of the site.

The searches are very lame as well. I don't need forums to ask questions. I need functionality. Until then, Allah's will continue to sadden me with its fall from usefulness.

Yea I tried the demo of that WoW. I played it about 3 days and quite. No way I am paying a monthly fee for a game and having to wait my turn just to log in. Also gameplay wise it realyl didn't interest me. It seemed like a watered town version of eq2. Of course once again I only played it to like lvl 4.

Sadly this site doesn't have as much information as other sites. The forums is probably the most useful part of the eq2 section really.

I play EQ2 but never come to this site. Why? Because it's not a good place for spoiler info. Alla's was THE place for information for a long time for EQ1. They apparently can't find anyone to keep up with the game. Don't wast your time searching the database for information on the expansion because there isn't any. No zone from it is even listed in the quest section.

If you play EQ2 and want spoilers, you need to go to the other place. Starts with an "O."

I go to the "O" for data, but I stay in this forum for the community. Since launch this place has been one that suits me, where I don't have to listen to 7331 drivle.

I have been trying to contribute to Alla's database by frequently providing quest and item information. I bet if many others did the same, the database would become much better. Sure, we aren't high-paid database managers, but we can do something instead of nothing.

I've found that there's no rhyme or reason to forum popularity. It really doesn't reflect on the game popularity in most cases. I'd venture to guess that those that play FF over EQ also tend to IM more, and are under the age of 18. Just a guess on my part though.

My understanding is that FFXI doesn't have English-friendly official forums, and it's non-Japanese players made Alla their de-facto official boards.

Also, many of the people who switched from FFXI to WoW when it came out just kept using Alla boards for WoW. I'm sure it's runaway popularity has something to do with the post volume too, but there is a disproportionate number of formmer FFXI players among the heavy WoW posters.
