Every time i do a workshop or wholesaler task i get a little experience and 100 status points towards that society.

My question is, is there any benefit to having these status points, ie. can i spend them somewhere, or are they just a way to track who does the most workshop tasks?

If you are guilded, they count towards your total PSP (personal status points), and can be spent anywhere you can spend status.

In addition, workshop societies used to carry a selection of sub-combines including WORTs and such - these were all basic materials for the various skills. The level of the workshop society was determined by how many tasks had been performed and the society's level determined how plush the selection of sub-combines was.

These items were removed and the infrastructure scrapped along with the removal of interdependence.

Guess SOE figured that if we could make anything we needed, we had no need to purchase it from an NPC vendor.

I kinda wish all these items were still available since it I found it very convenient to have a source for all those tedious gray combines that I could use (and profit from) but didn't really want to make myself...

Tonight when I handed in my workshop task I watched my status points very carefully and they didn't change.

Sorry OBD, just not convinced yet that these status points have been changed to personal as opposed to going to the workshop only.

btw there is still a leader board showing the top 50 contributors to the workshop status that changes as you hand in each task.

My only proof is that I spent a long time unguilded doing lots of workshop gathering quests. When I finally did join a guild, both of my guilded toons showed a goodly amount of status, (in even rounded hundreds). This was long before ever doing a writ.

Hmm well I wonder if they changed it again. Would be good if some more people could check their actual number as they do a hand in.

I have... as recently as a few weeks ago. (Simple as open the persona window and quick check the status amount before you do the turn in.) The number always goes up.

Handed in another gathering quest to my Workshop yesterday, and the 100 points definately only went to the Workshop. No difference in my Personal points.

I think they must've changed it, only conclusion I can come to Smiley: smile

Which seems pretty dumb to me. It's pointless giving points to Workshops now, would make much more sense if they were Personal Status Points.

I have never seen my personal status go up from doing quests for societies. The only ones I ever do though are the gather 15 items for cash. I don't fool with tradeskill writs that require you to make 15 items. Better exp to let them go to pristine, and you can make ALOT more selling them on the player market (usually)

I was bored today and had a ton of extra ink, quills, paper. (im a sage by profession) So i was like what the hell, ill do a few of the tradeskill quests (the one where you have to craft, not harvest). I did the tradeskill quest three times in a row. Each time i received 6 gold and approx 50 silver. (i made T4 or level 38 recipes each time). I still receive 100 "Status Points" but,

I still cant divine any purpose for "Status Points".
Just wondering if Sony has decided to do anything about this yet.

Sorry, forgot to add this to my previous post.

In response to fronglo's message. "Ive never been able to see my status points"

All you have to do is click on the button in the bottom left hand corner of your screen, while you are playing eq2, that is labeled "EQ2". Then click on the option for societies, and then click on one of the societies that you are a member of. This will show your current ranking in that society and the amount of "status" points that you currently have. There still isn't any purpose for status points but they are there for your enjoyment (i guees) ^_^!!!

You can type "P" to bring up the Persona window. It will have 4 tabs to click, choose Factions.

Keep in mind that faction and status are different. I have over 1 million status, but my faction with various groups is different.

Some better-than-Inn-room rooms will also require you to pay in cash and status points. My guild is considering moving to a better 3-room place, we're just deciding who will front the status points.

Guild level can grant you access to lower priced items. For example, you can buy a horse for a combination of less cash plus status. I think the Spirit Steed used to cost 60pp and 1 million status to those in a level 30 guild.

And it you like to be revered as a hero, the townsfolk will greet you and guards will salute you as you pass by. Sure, that won't help you kill a named ^^^ Epic x3, but it is one more step into a immersive environment.

I know how to see my status points, I was just saying I have never seen any status gain in my status points from doing those writs.

Anyways since you can't find the shaped quality items on npc vendors, what good is there to leveling up your society?

Ok just to clear some things up here Smiley: smile

There are 3 different types of tradeskill tasks.

1. Gathering tasks from the Wholesaler Society (your original society). These pay cash and give status points to the Wholesaler Society only.

2. Crafting tasks from the Workshop (your specialist society) i.e make 10 items. These pay cash and give status points to the Workshop only.

3. Crafting writs from the Ironforge Exchange (and FP equivalent). These pay cash, give personal status and guild exp status.

I gave up doing the workshop crafting tasks ages ago. They seem pretty pointless - if you buy any of the ingredients from the broker, the cash reward is less than the cost.

However I always have a gathering task as they pay nearly 2 gold for Tier 5, and I'm harvesting anyway.

Payout on workshop crafting tasks is 120% of your "cost", assuming of course that you didn't buy anything from the broker. Payout from the Ironforge family is 160% of your cost so it can be worthwhile doing those, especially if you use raw materials earned as drops instead of harvested.

These "harvest equivilent" drops are factored into your payout at their NPC sellback value so the 60% margin will really mount up if you can manage to use a bunch of them. This applies to liquids, metals, leather, cloth, gems, wood, etc.
