Hey I just bought eq II.I played eq and used a dark elf necro.I was wondering can dark elfs be necros in eqII ? I heard no just want to check.If not whats best class for dark elf?

I am relatively new to eq II myself in terms of playing (have had account since day 1 but haven't logged much time until recently.... long story.. sigh). I am playing a dark elf necro on the Guk server, so that is possible to answer your question.
In general, Necros are effective soloers in II just like in original and still fun to play. In this game, I'm only lvl 26 but have an old eq friend who is lvl 60 necro and gives me advice now and then. He assures me that you can solo up the lvls np if you wish and you can also group effectively too. What I can not tell you is how well the v.II necro correlates to the v.eq necro. Feign death for instance operates differently and someone else would have to explain the high lvl necro game. My intuition tells me they are not quite the same.
While I am no expert, I would just suggest to be open-minded to II. I would not expect to relive your eq necro glory days but the smooth flow of II and some of its features make it worthwhile in my book. I mainly played an SK in EQ and find the pet class a nice change of pace. It does take time to process the nuances and changes they have made and if you solo alot you aren't learning as much with others of course. But learn what ya need as you go and don't worry about things too much. As always ask ppl questions. I find ppl are very willing to help.
As for the best class for a dark elf? Stat-wise, I have little idea to be honest. I would say it depends more on your play-style than anything else. Mainly, Dark Elves Rock IMHO.. so I don't think you can go wrong there. : D GL to ya!

The good news is that there is no best class or race. There may be initial differences in stats, but over time you will get gear and items that will boost your stats beyond whatever initial gain you had.
If you are a Necro, you will primarily want gear that boosts your INT.
There is an abundance of solo mobs throughout all zones so you will have no problem soloing. Bad news is that solo mobs will only give you solo loot. Group and heroic mobs will give much better loot. With standard equipment and spells, you will only be able to take on a heroic mob that is several levels lower than yourself.
