EVERQUEST II POETRY!!!Follow

#1 Nov 20 2005 at 9:35 PM Rating: Decent
I have made many EverQuest II poetry in my life here. I was wondering if any of you have made any poetry. If you have, and it is respectful, no language, I will give you an item, and maybe some money in EverQuest II. Knock yourselves out!

Rules: Character name at top, date your poem was sent, what level your character is. The poem HAS to be about EverQuest II or something to do with it. (Monsters youve encountered, groups you have been in, maybe even rough encounters with a trade) Unfortunatly you have to have a Qeynos file to get this amount of money. Sorry to all of you full Freeport enforcers. If you do not have a Qeynos file, but still want to say a poem and get money and stuff, then please leave your files name as N/A and Edit it when you have made your Qeynos file in EverQuest II. The Server you have to be under to recieve ANYTHING other than a thank you, and "GOOD ONE!" is Lucan Dlere.

When the clock strikes twelve,
All is silent, all still,
But for a creeping shadow in the night.
A river of darkness, flowing in a black stream,
A lone sliver of murky fear,
For from the night sky, the moon shines down,
Casting silver rays on everything.
But for the creeping shadow,
Roaming, flowing, eyes glinting and glaring,
Wiry thin, slinking and sly,
He roams the Forest Ruins, but only at night.
What does he want?
Nobody knows;
In fact, all anyone knows is one thing:
That he's evil.
So when the clock strikes twelve,
When all's silent and still,
Do not be fooled,
For the Basalt Watcher could be waiting...
But waiting for what? Waiting for whom?
The answer is unknown...

But it could be you!

I log in one morning
and my heart stops.
What's this?
Money: 0
And items, none.
I pray that, maybe, it's just a bug...
But it's not
It's true
The hackers stole everything
Except...
My pets
More precious to me than all the items in Willow Wood
I smile, despite my sadness, and whisper
"We'll get through this... together."
I enter every contest
Play every game
Yet I still only have 300 Copper.
My pets look up to me, I can see their pain.
We go to the food shop
and then the Healing Springs
I know we'll make it!
We'll pull through!
'Cause we're the true Survivors...
My pets and I

Oh no! My dog is bloated!
Whatever shall I do?
Flat-u-less is too expensive!
And my cat’s got the flu!
Quick, I need a neck brace!
My dragon is weak and tired
But how can I afford it?
As my money has "expired"!
My Sheba feels so lonely...
So another pet I will buy
But what about my drake?
He longs to play and fly!
What do I do? Help me out?
I have no best friends!
My pets are all hungry now...
And on me they all depend!
Oh no! I've been challenged!
But I haven't gotten to train!
I need a platinum to pay
Or else the course won't change!
My pets all seem so weak
What happened to their smiles?
I guess I'll start a shop
To earn some money meanwhile
I'm sorry my dear pets
But try to hang in there!
For soon I'll be rich
And you'll be strong and fair!
Oh no! My shop is empty
Now I must restock!
But first I'll feed my pets!
And play with my... pet rock?
I guess this is just the way
That it's supposed to be
But hopefully it'll change
Before more "Oh no's" attack me!

The first two poems are free verse, also called blank verse. It's very difficult to do right, and oh so many ways to do it wrong. You would do well to stick to more conventional forms of poetry that have both meter and a rhyme scheme. The third is a bit better, but is still little more than doggerel (no pun intended), and seems to have little to do with Everquest.

I'm not saying you have to do iambic pentameter for it to be good - even limericks can be excellent poetry if they're executed well. But poetry isn't something you can just whip out anytime, anywhere... good poetry requires as much work as any other form of art, from novel writing to line art.

Keep trying. =^_^=

Edit: With regards to your request that people have a Qeynos-based character in order to receive your "prizes," it would be a good idea to say what server... that makes far more of a difference than whether someone's from Qeynos or Freeport.

A poster named Tutan fought true,
updating quests can we do.
He begged Alla once late,
the website please update,
lest other sites lately we flew.

Eh? Anymore? I will say another if you guys don't have one.

[i]Across the waves from the sunken city lights,
Before you meet the fearsome pirate shore,
The paradise for which my soul excites,
My weary heart will rest forever more.

I'm sitting, serenaded by the breeze,
The ocean spray softly mists my face,
I'm shaded by the gently swaying trees,
There's no one else around this perfect place.

Then hear the laughter coming from the town,
And the bangs and clangs from the great weapon smith’s hammer,
Words of wisdom, which the Masters teach,
Tall sails pass as ships from harbor roam.

A lost city rests upon the northern shore,
The rock pool offers wild companionship,
You can hear the great Basalt Watcher roar,
Watch the Hard-shelled Turtles along the sandy strip.

But lo, this place lives only in my dreams,
While here back in the city I must be.
But these dreary days aren't quite as they seem,
For my Forest Ruin dreams still comfort me.[i]
